– but is not overly pushy with that desire. She does poke the other dog with her nose. Some say no – and she will respectfully back off and others join her in play and she loves it. She can be a bit of a drama queen and squeaks when the other dog plays a little too rough – but she is usually right back in the game after a moment to shake it off! She has met (and lived with in my home) with quite a few different dogs. I have 3 dogs of my own (various sizes and ages) and I have had a foster the entire time I have fostered Ella. She has been great with all of them – and even my 2 grumpier dogs were won over with her charm. I also had 3 additional dogs that I dog sat during the time Ella was with me. She met other dogs at friends’ houses and seems to enjoy meeting everyone. Her paperwork came with a note that she likes cats. While I do not have cats, I did observe her reaction to the cats at the clinic and she just walked over and sniffed. She has done beautifully with housetraining – she did have a couple accidents on her first day here (both times on a throw rug). After that first day of figuring things out, not another accident. I have a doggie door and she was initially cautious of the doggie door – but after a few days decided it was great to be able to go outside whenever she wanted to. I think I would keep watch on her for the first few days in a new home – especially if you have carpeting or rugs. Once she understands where it is appropriate, I don’t think you will have any issues with this. She did not like the crate at all. I tried many distractions but finally decided I needed sleep. She does much better being gated into or out of an area. I have allowed her free run of my house (along with my dogs) and she has not shown any destructive tendencies at all. She is learning not to jump up on everyone, has learned sit – very quickly, initially wouldn’t even move on the leash – but has learned to walk fairly well with her handler. She does great when there is another dog around to show her the ropes. Ella will sit for her meals – so make sure she sits before you put her food down. If you are feeding her around other dogs, she needs reminding that she cannot stick her face in the other dogs’ food bowls. She responds very well to a vocal “eh eh” and will back off – but if the other dog is a resource guarder or just not crazy about her getting that close – she could get into trouble. She rides great in the car – just hangs in the back and watches the world go by. I have not had her with children yet, but she is playful, gentle and loves to snuggle and play – I think she would fit into almost any household. She will hesitate (freeze) on the leash if she is unsure. If there is another dog along side her - she seems to do fine, but when she is on her own, she will freeze and not move. When this happens she will try to work her way out of her collar so as a precaution she should wear a martingale collar so she will not get loose.
