ay in my terrific foster home.I love to kisses and licks, and to burrow under blankets. I don't mind going into my crate but I can be very sneaky and escape if it's not secured properly. I love to take long walks and to go on car rides. I even like to take baths! While I have very good manners, other animals and I just don't get along. I also have some issues as a result of being exposed to domestic violence. I really need a strong leader who can take control of things so that I don't feel like I have to. I'm not too keen on guys right now because of my past experiences but I'am hoping that with some good behavioral training, I'll start being more trusting of men. I'm ready to find my forever home. Are you the one for me? Begley Woods is 5 years old and weighs 22 pounds and needs to be in a home without other animals or males. _____________________________________________________________________ Some of the dogs listed may not be cleared for adoption yet and many may be adopted prior to when you are approved and are next in line to work with the Adoption Coordinator. Please do not despair. We have new dogs coming into our Rescue all the time regardless of whether you see them posted here or not. If you are willing to be patient or if you are willing to adopt one of our older dogs, we suggest that you apply as soon as possible. The Adoption Coordinator works with the older applications first to find good matches with the dogs we have available at that time. Waiting to apply until you see a dog posted that you like usually ends with that dog being adopted by someone who submitted an application before you. If you are interested in adopting, please visit our website to learn about our adoption process and to fill out an application. http://bostonrescueflorida.org/available-for-adoption/adoption-process/ Because we have Boston Terriers of all ages, we have a sliding scale for adoption fees generally ranging from $300 to $600 based on the age and health of the dog. In general the fees are: $600 - 9 wks to 23 months $550 - 2 yrs to 3 yrs $475 - 4 yrs to 5 yrs $400 - 6 yrs to 7 yrs $300 - 8 yrs to 9 yrs For dogs 10 yrs old and older, we just request a donation. Our fees cover vetting costs, shelter fees, fuel for transport while in the rescue, copying and printing of contracts and paperwork, our website presence, food, boarding, behavioral training and additional medical care. While the dog you adopt may not require all of these things, many other dogs in our system do. By adopting from Boston Terrier Rescue of Florida, you are not saving just one life, you are helping to save others as well.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
