years old. Because Millie is absolutely adored by her foster family, she’s aka Precious, Beautiful, Millie Vanilli & Princess!
Millie came to the rescue as a stray after someone found her living on the streets. She had to have surgery to remove her right eye & she gets drops in her other eye. And though she can only see light & dark out of it, she’s a smart little cookie & has learned her way around her foster’s home. She may run into things now & again, but she’s ok with that. She knows exactly where the important places are i.e. cozy doggy beds & back porch sun spots! Of course her forever family will need to be loving & patient and understand that it‘ll take time for her to learn the layout of a new home.
In all likelihood Millie was a backyard breeder dog & not given proper healthcare including preventative heart worm (hw) medicine. So not surprisingly & to no fault of her own, she came to the rescue hw positive. Which basically means that when she was bitten by a mosquito she had nothing in her system to fight it off. Since Millie shows none of the possible symptoms such as labored breathing, or coughing, and especially since she’s a quiet lady who mostly likes to nap, snore & grab snuggles with her human, the rescue is taking the slow kill approach. Which means right from the start she began 30 days of Doxycycline. On day 31 she was given a Benadryl & the very next day she started *Advantage multi, her topical monthly heartworm preventative. Simply said, she takes her monthly heartworm medicine & continues living her most deserved wonderful doggie life. As always, we encourage you to talk with your vet or us if you have questions. (*The rescue will continue to pay for her heartworm medicine until she is hw negative. Her next hw test is March 2020)
Millie most likely fell asleep some nights on an empty belly, so she can be protective of her food & treats and feels safest having treats & meals in a separate space with her foster mom or dad nearby - just a tad away from other doggies. Though she’s getting better, her forever family should continue this routine. Millie likes to go outside every couple of hours to do her private business. She has crate anxiety so when her foster family has to go out, Millie’s left in an area to roam free. If she’s home alone for 2+ hours, she wears a diaper to prevent any accidents. Her foster family says it’s almost always dry when they get home.
She enjoys the simple things in life - full tummy, warm bed, sun spots, car rides & dog walks. For her - dog walks aren’t so much about distance travelled as much as getting lots of chances to stop & take in all the good smells! Most importantly Millie wants someone who’s home a good chunk of the day; someone who works from home or who’s retired. She wants someone to snuggle with while they read a book or watch TV. Mille has been known to nod off during a movie so don’t be surprised when you hear a good snorty snore or two!!

We prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to personally drive/fly to get the dog.
