adorable girls are super fun and chill little fosters, and they are now housebroken, too. They get along beautifully with their foster fur-siblings, though they might be a little too curious about the cats at first. Dogs are kids are A-OK. They will need a securely fenced yard, because they are adventurous girls who enjoy taking themselves on unsupervised walks. This is a highly bonded pair, so they really do need to stay together. As you can see, they are BT mixes (we think they’re mixed with IG/Italian Greyhound, or something similar), but their personalities are all Boston! Ideally, we would like to keep them within a reasonable driving distance of the Dallas/Ft. Worth (TX) area, but we will consider applicants who might be farther out. Their current vet is in Garland, but we can be flexible for the right foster home. As always, we will provide everything a foster home might need for them. If you have any questions, please feel free to drop them below. To apply to foster (or adopt), please visit .abtrr to complete our online application. We’d love to hear from you! ************************************************************************** Maddie (aka Dot, Polkadot) and Maggie are a bonded pair that need to be adopted together. Sisters, Sisters - Maddie and Maggie When we think of these girls, we can’t help but want to name them Vera and Rosemary, “We think and we act as one, aha”. (If you know, you know.) ;-) These two sweeties are absolutely stuck together, and while they may not have Boston noses (still very boopable), they are Bostons through and through. They are about 7 years old and Level 10 cuddlers, happy-go-lucky comedians, and get along well with other fur siblings. There is simply no other joy than a dog who is constantly shifting themselves to be closer to you. Enter Maggie, the Velcro dog! Sister Maddie has one eye on you and one eye on her surroundings to make sure you (and Maggie) are safe. Maddie seems to do all the worrying and protecting. The girls' foster family has worked a lot with Maddie to bring her out of her shell. She has taken more time to open up but is now absolutely devoted to her pack (humans included). They both have the most joyful jog. You can’t help but smile when you see the tips of their ears bouncing in step with their excitement. Life before fostering seems to be a distant memory. Their foster family worked long and hard to relearn potty training and have introduced positive reinforcement with cookies. The only real consideration is that they are fond of taking "unaccompanied promenades around the park", so to speak. They are skinny little things and can squeeze themselves through very small spaces. They have never gone far, but they will find the weakest link. They also have a real fear of storms. Melatonin seems to help quite a bit and we’ve worked out a system to help with their anxiety. We hate when they are in distress, but there are ways to help them through. We are pretty sure that this is a life-long thing for them, so that will require a level of vigilance. They are a happy duo looking for a loving home. If you'd like to open your heart and home to this dynamic duo, we'd love to hear from you. Please visit us at .abtrr and complete the online adoption application. Note that Maddie and Maggie are being fostered in the North Central Texas area. All adoptions begin with our online application at .abtrr. Since Maddie and Maggie must be adopted together, we will work with the right adopter to determine a suitable adoption donation for the pair. If you have questions specifically about Maddie, please email us at infoabtrr. While we do have a phone number, we have a very small volunteer base, and we are often unable to return phone calls in a timely manner. Thank you! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
