soaking up all the love and attention from the volunteers while I wait for my new family to find me! I’m a deaf puppy, so my trainer is teaching me hand signals for some great doggie commands. No worries – being deaf doesn’t affect my sunny and happy disposition! I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off site and learning a lot! Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I'm available to meet. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met some other dogs at Mostly Mutts, and liked them, so if you have a dog already, let’s meet! / I haven’t met kitties yet, so let’s meet. / I met a nice boy and a girl around 10 years old at Mostly Mutts and liked them, so a home with kids that will understand that I am still a puppy and I can’t hear could be a good fit for me. Let’s meet! • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a sweet, friendly guy with a very playful and fun nature. I still have a good bit of puppy in me – always happy to see my people and giving puppy excitement nips (never to be mean). I’m just always ready to GO and have fun with the volunteers! Affectionate and loving, I’m definitely an attention seeker. I’ll need a family that will be sure to keep me safe since I cannot hear. The shelter volunteers gently blow on me to wake me up and that does not seem to startle me at all. I’ve also been trained on a vibration collar as an alternative to verbal communication. I’m quite bright, and my trainer can fill you in on the hand signals they use to teach me commands, due to my deafness. My energy level is 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program. Using hand signals and a vibration collar, I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. / My crate manners are good at Mostly Mutts. / I've been having some accidents on the shelter and prison foster schedule. Please continue to be consistent with me on a good schedule, so I can master my potty skills. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I am always ready for a fun play session with the volunteers and enjoy stuffed toys. I like my shelter walks and – though I can get underfoot, I walk pretty well regardless of being deaf. I really love attention and snuggles. / I can’t think of things I don’t like yet since I’m so young, but I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise and training. • MEDICAL: I've started my puppy shots, but you will have to finish these for me as I grow. I’m also micro-chipped and neutered. I had a boo boo on my back when I arrived, so that area was shaved and treated, and my hair grew back nicely. If you’re ready for the fun and excitement of having a puppy as well as the training commitment, then let’s meet! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
