ou want to adopt me, don't wait - fill out an application now and you could take me home sooner! ;@ ALWAYS ADOPT Age: 15 Months (as of 6/4/17) Weight: 35 lbs (as of 5/4/17) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Hey, Everyone! Meet beautiful Camilla Wales! She appears to be a Boxer/Labrador Retriever/"Something Small" mix a little over a year old. She and her sister Beatrice were found wandering a country property by a shelter supporter last summer. Camilla's a very outgoing, playful dog who loves everyone and especially SQUEAKY TOYS! She also loves car rides and if you happen to go through the drive-thru, she promises not to steal your french fries. She's great with kids, cats and other dogs; she's crate-trained and walks on a leash, and is working diligently on her house training. She's learning how much fun fetch can be and will want to continue fine-tuning her game. We strongly recommend that all our dogs attend obedience classes because you get to learn commands together, and it offers an opportunity for confidence building and socialization for the dog, and it also helps to strengthen that ever-important bond between the dog and her human family. It’s lots of fun, too! A well-mannered, obedient dog will be welcomed most anywhere you take her. Though Camilla doesn’t necessarily require a fenced yard, she will need lots of daily walks and opportunities to play off-leash in a dog park which is the next best thing. A tired dog is a good dog! Dogs of all ages also benefit from mental stimulation – think puzzle toys and games. Camilla's affectionate and would love to curl up on your lap - or at least beside you if your lap's not big enough. She's interested in new places and new dogs and is looking forward to going on some great adventures with her new forever family! If you've been looking for a fun sidekick to explore with, fill out an application for Camilla Wales! Soon your home may be filled with the sweet sound of squeaky toys! Adoption Fee: $425 To apply for this dog, fill out an adoption application on our website: www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
