Posted Breed: Boxer / Dalmatian / Mixed (medium coat). Ross definitely wins the Academy Award for most gorgeous dog at the shelter. If Brad Pitt were to be reincarnated as a dog, it would be as Ross.

If Ross had an Instagram account where he posted nothing but pictures of himself, it would certainly be the #1 Instagram account in the United States and you would be following it. We think you get where weÂ’re going with this - this dog is a knock out. Ross has a gorgeous coat, delightfully spotted ears, stunning blue eyes (his sight and hearing is fine), and he weighs in at 68lbs. This boy is confident, very outgoing, has never met a stranger, is in great physical shape, thinks breakfast is the most important meal of the day, likes to throw parties but promises to always invite you, and he is a relatively young guy who actually acts much younger than his estimated age would make you believe. We think Ross seems like an 8 month old big, doofy puppy in a 3 year old dogÂ’s body. He is perpetually youthful. And, he is ready for life outside of the shelter. Ross is an active dog who would probably love to join you on hiking adventures, maybe even for a swim, or out for a walk/jog. Ever been to Enchanted Rock? He would probably like to go. We also think RossÂ’ life up until this point has probably been a cake walk. He has likely spent most of his time gallivanting around as a male dog model, swooning everyone with his amazing good looks and probably hasnÂ’t actually had to work much to earn his biscuits. Because of that, Ross is the kind of dog who lives life fully engaged and is still learning to mind his manners. He may jump up and give you a kiss on the lips if you arenÂ’t paying attention and he likes to investigate everything you might have in your hands or anything that sparks his interest around him. While he may need a bit of work in the training department, with a knowledgeable, patient owner, we think Ross could easily be a total rockstar. Stop on by to meet this hunk. HeÂ’s a good boy in his kennel at the shelter but we can tell he is beginning to feel a little cooped up. Ross is ready to get back out to see the world with someone who doesnÂ’t just appreciate him for his stunning good looks but who also wants to be his teacher and life-long pal. We think youÂ’ll love him.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
