o see me? Awesome! It’s so great to meet you! I absolutely love to meet new people. Do you like hugs? I love hugs! Can I give you one? PLEEEEEASE???? How about kisses? Can I give you kisses as well? Pretty please?!? Do you have any fur siblings for me to play with? I love playing and my foster mama has some fur kids that I play with all of the time, I even wear them out, lol. Don’t let my age fool you, I have an extremely high energy level. I hope you enjoy hikes and trails because I do. I get to smell all kinds of scents and see new things. Mama says I pull really hard when we’re on our walks but I can’t help it, it’s so exciting with all the different sounds and surroundings. So, we are working on it. Did someone say treats?!? I love treats, can I have one? Mama says that I’m starting to get better with patience when it comes to waiting my turn for a treat. I will even sit handsomely for one, but I still have some work to do. I’m learning how to act and behave from watching my fur siblings. They taught me how to use the doggie door and how to be respectful when I’ve gotten too carried away while playing. My fursiblings range from just over a year old to over 12 years old and mama is proud of how well I respect them. Do you have any skin kids as well? Mama has an older teenage boy that I enjoy being around as well. Mama has even had me around some of the neighbors for introductions and she said that other than trying to give them a big hug that I did very well. She hasn’t been able to let me meet any little ones yet but said she’s going to. I hope that you don’t have any fur kids that meow. Don’t get me wrong, I’m very curious about them. I just don’t like them, I tend to get very aggressive with kitty cats. Mama has to keep us separate so nothing bad happens by accident. I watch them from my crate while they have their free time in the house. Sometimes, I fall asleep watching them. They get their free time from their kitty room a couple times a day and as long as the weather is decent I get to play outside instead. Gotta go, mama wants to say a few things too. Can’t wait to meet you! Hello, Mosley’s foster mama here. He really didn’t leave much for me to say lol. Mosley is a real sweetheart and when he finally starts to settle down for a nap or bed time he becomes an even sweeter boy. He’s a great snuggler and would rather sleep with someone than in his crate. He will sleep in it though if needed. Words can’t always describe best and he’s one of those. Mosley hasn’t been in our home for very long and I’m learning more everyday about him, so please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I know he will be excited to meet you. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
