dience Skills Fostered in Friday Harbor, WA Hi, my name is Stella and I am a super sweet girl looking for my forever home. I am a such a happy girl and I love my humans so much that when they come home or let me out of my crate I give them a lot of kisses! I don ’ t really need a crate. When I ’ m left out I usually curl up on a pillow and patiently wait for my foster humans to get home. I haven ’ t made mischief even once being left alone , since coming into foste r . I love playing with my fur sisters, sometimes I get a little too rowdy though with the puppy and I have to stop playing with her. I never hurt her, I just don ’ t know my own size compared to her. Mom and Dad say she ’ s pretty tiny, I don ’ t know though, I just know we want to play together. My favorite pass time is playing with the mini mailmen aka children. We run and play out in the backyard. It makes me feel like the luckiest dog in the world to have a such great playmates. They include me in their games and I will stay and play with them as long as they will play with me. I would love a forever family with grade school aged kids. I have quite a bit of energy, my foster mom and dad say it ’ s because I ’ m still a puppy even though a I am year old. When I am feeling like I need to release some energy I love to run outside and take in all of the smells and sights in the backyard. I even know how to play fetch with myself! I scoop up my tennis ball and throw it up in the air and then chase it. It would probably be best if I lived in a house with a dog door so I can run around when I ’ m feeling energetic. But the most important part of my yard is no chain link fences. I can climb and jump very high! So, my foster parents say that I need a wood fence that is at least 5 feet tall. I love to go for walks, there is so much to smell and see! It ’ s so hard with all of the exciting things around me that sometimes I forget I ’ m on a leash but I ’ m learning quickly! It really helps when I am learning new things if I am told I ’ m a good girl. I just love hearing it and really want to be a good girl for you. Might you be a match as my furever family? If you think so, please complete an application bit.ly/WHBRadopt right away so we can meet. www.Wigglinhomeboxerrescue.org Email: wigglinhomeboxerrescue@gmail.com Phone (360) 723-0219

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
