Boxer Dogs For Adoption in Houston, TX, USA

Posted Breed: Boxer. Hello! My name is Bean and I'm about 2 years old. I was recently found as a stray and a nice family took me in and helped me find LSBR! My foster mom says that I'm a petite girl

who is fully crate trained and eager to please. I like to go on daily walks where I am told that I am very good on-leash. I also enjoy my time sniffing around the backyard while my foster mom does yard work. I even do some zoomies back and forth! But then I'm happy to hang out and watch TV either snuggling or chewing on a bone. I mostly just enjoy being around people, so whatever you are doing is great with me if I can just be nearby. I am good at entertaining myself with a stuffie toy or a squeaky ball. I like car rides, I don't mind thunderstorms, and I'm partial to chest-scratches. I am learning to use a doggie door also. I sit politely for treats and am learning "shake". I crate up easily with a treat when you need to leave the house or at night for snoozing. I would do best in a home as the only dog where I can reign as queen bee! I don't mind seeing another dog across the street on a walk, but frankly, I just don't want to live with another canine - I want all the loving to myself! And dog parks and doggie daycare? Yuck - all that sweaty fur? No thank you! I just need YOU, a nice walk, and a few toys, and I am perfectly happy. I love people and I give great little gentle kisses! I don't mind sharing my toys and even my food bowl with grown-ups, and I love getting treats! My perfect home would be a set-up where me and my two-legged BFF walk before or after work and then catch up on some tv time. Maybe a long walk on weekends, a drive through, some outside sun-time reading. Or maybe there is a family where I could be the "third musketeer" to make a home or apartment complete? THAT would be fantastic as well! I‘m so special I even have my own FB page......check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/Luke-of-Lone-Star-Boxer-1770123639873535/?ref=bookmarks

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
