She is named after the Houston Astros baseball player George Springer. She was rescued from a shelter where she was picked up as a stray. We could not even get her out the cage, she was so scared. She was covered in fleas and huge ticks. She is still a little thin, but definitely has some spunk back and is starting to love life. Springer was diagnosed with a tick borne illness, so she is currently being treated for that. Once that treatment is complete, she is due to start her heartworm treatment on May 22nd. Springer will need an Alcatraz crate, as she can and will escape a regular crate. She will start to get mischievous if left out more than 2 hours or so, it can lead to destruction if left out too long. Also, unless the family wants to invest or already has invested in an alcatraz crate, there would need to be a stay at home parent. We even have a child gate with a door to go up our stairs, and Springer knows how to open it. She loves dogs and kids, and would probably benefit from a dog friend, but I'm not sure it's a deal breaker if there were playful children. Springer doesn't care if humans come near her or her food while she is eating, and she doesn't care if a dog comes near her while she is eating, but she isn't okay sharing her food out of the same food bowl, she has never snapped but she definitely growled to get the point across that it wasn't okay. We have taken Springer to multiple Legacy events, and she has always done amazingly well with the crazy environments and multitude of people / dogs that come up and want to give them attention. We love taking her to restaurants where the patio is dog friendly, and she just soaks up all the attention. She is a super sweet and caring girl, not much bothers her as long as she is getting loved on. Springer will not be available until the end of June at the earliest. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet

  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
