orms, Erlichia, heartworm positive, and not neutered. He made it through heartworm treatment and was neutered on 4/10/19. He is up to date on shots, rabies, microchipped, fecal and on heartworm prevention. He is doing great in his Foster Home that has a 6 ft privacy fence and a senior male Boxer. There is a senior female Beagle and 2 young female Boxers who visit and he does great with them. He learned how to use the doggie door quickly. He is housetrained with a few accidents since coming to us as an outside dog. He will bark if he is not getting attention as needs human attention. He is not dominant and no aggression has been seen. He wants to sit and get petted as all about pleasing his human family. He will go out in the yard and throw around his toys and has moderate energy. DUSTY is a morning guy and as soon as you open your eyes he is right there to get you up and take him out potty and get his breakfast. If Dusty is left alone he will find anything with his Foster Mom's scent on it like her pillow, shoes, pajamas and take to the living room but not chew them up. You do need to have the garbage can out of his reach. He gets excited when someone comes to the door and Foster Mom has worked on him staying back and not going out the door. He has not been around kids with us, but with his temperament think kids and grandkids ages 10 and older. Best with his size, to have Boxer experience and keep up the basic skills. He will be a loyal Boxer and wants to please. He needs home with lots of love, training and attention. He is good walking on leash and needs to get exercise to not get overweight. We do not know about Dusty with cats so think best with no cats to not take a chance. Foster Mom reports that he is just a great Boxer with lots of love to give and be a great family pet and companion. Foster Mom reported that "Although Dusty likes me and other female adults, when he has a male adult visit the home he is so excited and wants to be their dog! He would be a great companion for a guy to hang with, go places, and just have fun being a dog. He's a man's dog and has never been." Interested in Adopting? Please go to BoxerRescueOfTexarkana to How to Adopt for our Requirements and online Adoption Application. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
