another dog in his forever home Cat friendly: Unknown Kid friendly: Yes House trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Energy level: Moderate (active but not hyper) History: Pulled from an animal control Adoption Fee: $350.00 From the Foster: Hello! My name is Zeke. I am around 10-12 months old and am super excited about finding my perfect family! My foster mom said I should tell you about my good traits! First things first, I have GREAT house manners. I know to potty outside and even go out when it's raining to do my business! Who doesn't want a housetrained dog!? (That is what my foster mom always says!) Second, I adore kids. ADORE. All I want to do is lick and play and wrestle with them. I live with a 7 year old and a 2 year old and would love some kids in my forever family, although it is not a requirement. If I don't have any kids to play with, I would just LOVE a doggie friend. I live with 2 grouchy dogs right now and I am very respectful of them, but do try to get them to play every day. If I had a dog to wrestle with, that would be a dream come true! I go to doggie daycare and do a great job with all sorts of pups. I am also crate trained. I like my crate and although I sometimes bark when I first go in, I settle down quickly and chew on a bone. Speaking of bones, I LOVE food. But I am not at all a resource guarder - I even share my dinner sometimes (my foster sister is pushy!). My foster mom says I am very active but not hyper. I just like to be doing things! I love to learn, too, and am very attentive. I am a smart guy they say. OK, time to tell you why I am not actually 100% perfect (but foster mom says I am pretty darn close!). I need a house with a fenced yard - I am too strong for tie outs and I really love romping in my yard. I hope I can find a family who can accomodate this little request! Do I sound like I could be a good fit for you?! If so, I would love to hear from you. Love, Zeke

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
