ionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. The story of Kali started with a simple text from a daughter to her father on a her way back from a shopping trip with her mother, it simply read “look, muddy puppy shirt”. Of course the response was “what puppy did that since I’m at home with all 3 of our pups”. A few minutes later a poor doggy that could barely walk was carried into our house and more importantly into our hearts. After a hearty meal, and a surprisingly easy bath, she was asleep in her bed which was a far cry from the soaked country road she was just picked up from. Kali had obvious emotional scars as she coward from most any noise, but as time progressed the beautiful personality that is Kali started to come through. She has a love for stuffed animals and when she finally gets one in her mouth she will strut her stuff, albeit she doesn’t know where to strut to but she will continue in motion for good show. She’s still learning to play, it’s somewhere between that excited toddler and awkward teen, but has started to try and initiate with our other 3 dogs. More importantly she has learned how to accept love and will be happy to snuggle that big head of hers into ours, although it will be after a nice walk along with a Sherlock Holmes level of sniffing investigation of the house. This fury power house very much has a softer side, no matter the excitement going on, she makes sure she doesn’t knock down our 1 year old and is very tolerant of said one year old’s attempt of loving a dog. To see her go from a scared young girl to the pup she is today is nothing short of amazing and as her journey continues in life there will be no shortage of personality nor growth in this amazing dog we all affectionately call Kali Girl. ***PLEASE READ ALL INFO! THIS PUPPY IS LOCATED IN ARKANSAS. HE/SHE IS LISTED FOR ADOPTION IN ALL THE STATES THAT WE OFFER TRANSPORT TO, OR NEAR. PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN ADOPTING A PUPPY THAT IS LOCATED OUT OF STATE. Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $300-$350, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $250. This includes spay/neuter if old enough, (If not old enough for spay/neuter, the puppy will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract, which will require the adopter to have him/her spayed/neutered no later than 6 months of age), up to date age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $140 per dog. We use Uber Dog Animal Rescue Transport, and you can see more about them at www.uberdogart.com. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
