, crate trained, utd on my vaccines. My AKC name is CH Go North's I Love My Southern Bell – AKC SS07736402. I have been and I am on hw prevention, I am HW and Tick Neg. My Mom loves me, and felt it was better to let me have a home of my own, as there were 7 dogs in my family. I get along well with my sister Lady Anne, I am not bonded, but do love her. My sister doesn’t like smaller dogs and will start a fight and I want to join in. I am told that is a no no, but being a sister, I want to help my sister out. I would like to have a loving family to dolt on me and spoil me. I am hoping I can be your families Valentine. I would love a physical fenced in yard. I would love to be your only baby girl with 4 legs. From Bella Rae’s Owner: Bella is from my breeding. I own both Mom and Dad and kept her and two of her siblings from a litter of 5.Bella was born in Alaska, and we were active in conformation dog shows. She took puppy classes and also nosework classes. Since I had three puppies, my son and a friend helped me with handling and showing the puppies. Bella isn’t as sure about approaching a stranger but will eventually do so with caution. There was one time (this year), I had her at the vet and a child approached her to pet her. I had Bella sit and the girl reached out to pet her. Bella was unsure but didn’t show any fear signals. After the girl pet her and retreated, Bella became more interested in the girl and seemed to want more attention. The girl was slow and gentle. The only “toys” we use are Benebone chews, moose antlers, rope type toys (not a favorite). (Lady hoards stuffies) Bella is also prone to de-fluffing stuffy toys. When we moved to TX, I bought some fetch type toys and Bella would be interested in picking up the balls but would not really fetch and or really engage. Bella is a small cobby girl. As with most Brittanys, she is food motivated and easily trained. She is good at getting her nails dremeled (we do so at least every 2-3 weeks). She will sometimes pull her foot away (ticklish) but, she does not fight, cry, or nip. She’s used to being on a grooming table and being groomed with scissors. She also allows her teeth to be brushed and her ears cleaned. We groom every 2-3 weeks: nails, ears, and teeth. Then scissoring to tidy up as needed. She’s good on the table and with all grooming tasks including baths. Bella is the biggest cuddle bug. She loves nothing more than being on your lap and rubbing her head/face on you and your chest. She often coos at you while doing this. She likes to “sing” to you. She will bark, but not like crazy. Commands Bella Rae knows: Sit Down (don’t always follow through, but they have been taught it.) Come in (from the yard) – probably will NOT recall if they got loose in the whole wide world. Kennel up Go Potty – “Go Potty so we can go to bed” Wait (I usually use hand signals to emphasize this) Leave it Drop it or At At From NBRAN: She would be better as an only dog. I would not take her to dog parks. All she wants is loving, cuddles and to be able to coo in your arms. With approval of Coordinators/Regionals involved, she might be able to be a foster to adopt. Medical: Daily medications: ½ 50 mg Proin 2 times per day. Bella has suffered with some urinary incontinence since she was under a year old (before being spayed). Her liver values are a little up, we put on Denimarin and we checking in 30 days. The adoption fee for OK/Bella Rae, who lives in Tulsa, OK is $350, which helps to offset our vetting and allows NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful family members. If you are interested in making OK/Bella Rae part of your family, please complete the on-line application by visiting .nbran . Contact the South Central Region Coordinators Chris Wagoner at cwnbrangmail , Melinde Waddle at macgammygmail and/or Nancy Walker at nwalkercapecod and then let your state coordinator know so we can get the ball rolling. A phone interview, home visit and vet check will be required as part of the approval process by your state coordinator, before talking to the foster of Bella Rae. Transportation can be arranged up 1400 miles with the adopter being responsible for at least the last 100 miles.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
