e don’t like being apart as we have always lived together. And, we just go well together. Like chips and dip. I’m younger, but I am her “big” brother. I am 3 years old and Dixie is 5. Our previous family loved us very much but they changed careers and were working long hours, so they surrendered us to NBRAN in the hopes that we could find a new family with more time for us. We are doing well in foster care. We like our foster family and live with 2 other Brittanys and 3 very nice people. So, let me tell you a bit about myself. Foster mom says I’m adorable. I like to be the centre of attention and follow her around ALL THE TIME. I’m pretty chill and laid back though for a young guy. I like to play with my foster family. Tug is my favourite. I sleep every night in the bed with my foster parents. They are snuggly and I just like being near them. I also enjoy being outside in our big fenced yard. We have a doggie door and I like to come and go as I please. I will sit and shake your hand for a treat and I will take it gently. I like walks but I’m a BIG boy at approximately 60 lbs (also on a diet like Dixie) so being a typical Brittany I will pull you around the neighbourhood on my leash :) Other than pulling foster mom around, she says we are very well behaved. I am heart worm negative, neutered, up to date on my vaccinations, and microchipped. We are currently screening applications for a new family, so if you are up for a dynamic duo, we are your dogs! Dexter’s adoption fee is $375 US and Dixie’s adoption fee is $350 US. This covers vetting and allows us to help other dogs like them. We will NOT consider splitting them. They are a bonded pair and have lived together their entire lives. Dixie and Dexter are being fostered near London, Ontario (Canada). NBRAN can transport up to 2200 kms (1400 miles) with the adopter expected to do the last 100 miles. To apply to adopt Dixie and Dexter please go to this link .nbran/adopt/adoption-application and complete our online application form or contact sandratoal18gmail for more information.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
