ail, and the classic orange dot on the top of my head. The nice vet called me a “low rider”, he said I must be mix.. his guess was Brittany/Springer since my legs are shorter and strong. My foster family says I’m mixed with sweetness and love! Before I came to NBRAN I was found by a police officer. Since I can’t talk, I’m unable to tell them about my past. But, we do know that I had a litter of puppies at some point. Thank goodness that will never happen again, because now I am spayed, healthy, and up to date on all my shots. Currently, I weigh 46 pounds. I love food and I was extremely hungry when I got to my foster family’s house. I guess I ate alittle too much, so I’m working on losing a few pounds. I’m eating very healthy kibble and taking daily walks. I love to walk! Walk around the block, walk in park, wherever, just let me do it on a long line so I can sniff and look for rabbits. When I see one, I want it! Foster momma says NO and is teaching me “leave it”. I’m still pretty puppy like. I missed out on some things because I was busy taking care of babies. Now, it’s all about me. I love toys, I’m very friendly, will fetch balls, and over all very playful. I would like to have a sister or brother, but I’m just fine as an only child too. Please remember I’m still learning, so sometimes I put my paws on the counter and I will let you know when someone comes to the door. Foster family says I listen well, adjusted very fast, and will make an awesome family dog. Maysie is heart worm negative, (on preventative), micro chipped and ready for her new forever home. Her adoption fee will be $325 to offset her vetting and to allow NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful family members. If you are interested in making Maysie a part of your family, please complete the on-line application by visiting www.NBRAN.org, Adoption Center, Adoption Application. Once the application is complete, you will hear from your local area State Coordinator. T his process includes a detailed phone interview, a vet check, and a home visit. Maysie is eligible for our NBRAN Canine Railroad system and can be transported up to 1200 miles at no additional cost.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
