, and quirky little fur baby. She loves being around other dogs and playing with them, but she sometimes has some spatial issues, so slow introductions are absolutely key. We introduced her to our pack of dogs over a few days and she slowly fit in perfectly. Along with spatial issues relating to dogs, Demi can sometimes have spatial issues when relating to humans, too. She needs slow Introductions to strangers coming in her home. We believe she was abused as a puppy and strangers coming into her safe place can frighten her. That is not to say people cannot come over. We have guests all the time, we just allow her to meet them slowly once the excitement dies down. Demi is going to need a human companion that is willing to meet her on her level, by being accepting of her sometimes vocal nature. She only gets vocal when she is very excited, so for Demi, vocals are a good thing. She has been taking training classes to boost her confidence. She is very intelligent and eager to please dog, so we strongly think she belongs in a home where her new family will continue to take her to training or agility classes. Demi loves to go for walks and run around in the yard. She would stay out all day if she could. One of her favorite activities is to run in circles and chase her doggy friends. Given the right introduction, care, and love, Demi is the perfect addition to a patient home without young children. Demi is thriving in her training classes in Louisville. Because of this, we are requiring her applicants be local in Louisville Kentucky, have a complete fenced backyard, and commit to continuing her training The adoption fee is $275.00. If you want to talk about me, please contact my foster family at the Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee, Kentucky Region Email me at: BTRETky@gmail.com and a foster momma or daddy will get back with you as soon as possible. Keep in mind this is the general mailbox for the entire KY Region. Please use the foster momma or dad's contact information above for questions. The process always begins with an application which can be found at The Boston Terrier Rescue of East Tennessee website Note that in most cases, we do not adopt to families with small children, e.g., "under 6," as a precaution to the child's safety and the dog's safety. In some cases with larger Boston mixes or other dogs, we do make exceptions. Please ask the foster momma. We prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to personally drive/fly to get the dog. The East Coast division (NC/SC/VA/MD/DC) does have special transport capabilties for their kids. Ask them. Also, submission of an application and fee does not guarantee adoption of any specific Boston since that particular dog may have applications pending or may not be the right match for you.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
