lly have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. PLEASE READ! Bishop is located in Arkansas. He is listed for adoption in all the states we offer transport to or near. He will stay in Arkansas until he has an adopter ready to welcome him, at which time he will be transported to them. 2/25/19 Bishop is the sweetest little guy! He came into rescue as a stray and no one ever claimed him. He was in very health condition on intake, very under weight and he had heartworms. We have had him treated for heartworms and he is doing great now. We've also had him neutered and brought up to date on shots, etc. Bishop is EXCELLENT with other dogs, large and small, male and female. He does not have any aggression issues at all. He is a submissive personality and tries to just go with the flow. He is playful but also content to just chill with his person. He is not a high energy dog. He is crate and house trained. He sleeps quietly in his crate all night and never makes a sound. We believe Bishop is a Boxer/Pit mix. He has a really pronounced underbite, which is super cute! He is on the smaller side, weighing about 40lbs. He loves to interact with and play with the other dogs here at the rescue. He is great with all people as well, including kids. Bishop would make an exceptionally loyal and loving companion. He is ready to find a home of his own. We believe Bishop is about 2 years old. For more info, email kelley.aasrgmail Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $300-$350, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $250. This includes spay/neuter if old enough, (If not old enough for spay/neuter, the puppy will be adopted on a spay/neuter contract, which will require the adopter to have him/her spayed/neutered no later than 6 months of age), up to date age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $140 per dog. We use Uber Dog Animal Rescue Transport, and you can see more about them at .uberdogart. For more info regarding adopting, email kelley.aasrgmail. Thank you for considering one of our rescue babies!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
