nd up to date on vaccinations and all preventative care. Fiona is a wonderful and loving bulldog that has been in one home since she was just 8 weeks old. She is strong, healthy (no allergies or skin infections), intelligent, eager to please, but can be a typical stubborn bulldog at times (she is definitely an alpha). She knows a ton of tricks (stay, sit, paw, lay down, speak) and is impressively intelligent. She loves car rides, sleeping on the couch and sleeping on the bed if allowed, being the center of attention, walks/hikes (been known to do 8 miles easily), but also is known to sleep all day so not required to be walked. She is super smart, sweet, loyal, obedient, house trained. Her owners have to re-home Fiona, a heart wrenching decision, because she became very aggressive towards their other (male) bulldog after living 5 years together (since they were puppies). The owners tried meds, training etc and it has not improved. Serious inquiries can get more information about Fiona, or speak with her owners in more detail. Fiona requires a home with breed experience or with another similar breed. Anyone with dog training and/or behavior modification experience would be a plus. Fiona is a dominant female and requires a strong, not aggressive, owner. She is your typical Bulldog and has a tendency to test her limits if not provided with clear and consistent commands. She is crate trained and loves her crate but can get scared and aggressive if you put your hands in the crate. She loves walks but does lunge and pull on the leash when other dogs are around her, so she needs a strong adult to be the only one to walk her. In the evening she just likes to be left alone in her own company. Fiona must be an only dog/pet in the home. Older children would be OK but no toddlers. The adoption donation is $300. If you are interested in adopting one of our animals, please go to www.angelsamongusanimalrescue.org and fill out an online adoption application. Thank you! Massachusetts Residents: Effective September 28, 2017 a Quarantine Fee of $120 will be required (in addition to the adoption fee) to adopt a dog that has been Quarantined. Massachusetts mandates that all dogs entering MA shall be quarantined for 48 hours in a state approved facility.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
