my furever home is out there!! I was rescued from Pasedena Animal Control along with my puppy Clementine (she has been adopted, I'm so happy for her!). Olde English Bulldogge is my breed so I am bigger than the English Bulldogs you see, but I am a big hunk of love! Since coming to my foster's house, I've learned about love, which is huge for me because I was abused before being rescued. I'm still a little wary of other people because I seem to have been through a lot, and because of that it may take me a few minutes to warm up to you (secret tip: turkey treats are my weakness!) but I promise I'm a gentle boy! Loud noises and lots of activity aren't really my style, I'm a low-key, low energy and low activity kind of guy. Also, I really enjoy my crate, it's my own personal space which means I am fully crate trained!! And, I enjoy bath time! Love LOVE the extra scratches and attention! I enjoy other dogs, big or small, but I would be great as an only dog as well. Kids are great too!! I love them! What can I say, I'm an all around great guy. Stairs are really my only concern in life, I can walk up and down them but would prefer no stairs! Currently I am being treated for heartworms. Don't worry, this is treatable and will go away for good! I would love to meet you and have my own forever home! What do you say to giving me a chance?? ***Adoption Requirements*** No children under the age of 8 years old All current pets must be up to date on vaccinations All current pets must be current on heartworm prevention and flea/tick meds Please contact appaarfhouston for more information about this dog. You can apply online by clicking on Application . Puppies that are under 4 months old cannot be adopted outside of our Veterinary Service area. Please call for specific locations. We only adopt to families with children under 8 years old by exception. Once your application is approved, we will schedule a meet and greet at one of our adoption events. Thank you for considering a rescue! The adoption fee includes vaccinations, Bordetella, de-worming, rabies, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a an additional $12.99 fee for Home Again for a lifetime registration of the microchip. Puppies cannot be adopted outside of the Houston area until they are spay/neutered after they are 4 months old. It is against the law in the State of Texas for a rescue not to be sterilized so we have to make sure it gets completed and that we have record of it. NOTE: In our bios, we provide information based on our volunteer's experience with a particular dog; such as temperament, training, and ability to get along with others. AARF is a 501(c)3 Non Profit, all breed, no kill organization. Our group is always in need of donations in order to continue to give the needed medical care to our rescues. Adoption fees do not begin to cover all of the medical costs. Any donation , no matter how small is a big help and is greatly appreciated. Please help us to continue to help them. Thank you.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
