Bulldog Dogs For Adoption in Tempe, AZ, USA

Posted Breed: English Bulldog / English Bulldog (short coat). Jett is a 9 year, English bulldog - here's what we can tell you about him: 1) he has been dog selective when first arrived into rescue,

but has been doing great in his current foster home. Would do best in a dog-free home or one with another mellow dog. 2) he is a SENIOR gentleman - think of your old Grand-dad (or more like Bart Simpson's Grandpa ....yes, more like Grandpa Simpson!). He's a lovable curmudgeon! He loves a good daily stroll for 20-30 minutes (weather permitting of course) 3) his eyesight and hearing are not perfect - patience may be needed when waking him from sleep or getting used to navigating new places. He does see better than he can hear and gets around his foster home well. He gets confused where the cookie is though... is it still in your hand??? 4) MUST HAVE FENCED POOL - or no pool - because he's a bit rickety with less than perfect vision - we don't want his caretakers to have to fish him out of the pool!! 5) no little kids! Jett would not appreciate little fingers poking and prodding him while he's trying to chill out. Older, respectful kids are a-ok! Since Jett doesn't hear he will startle if you wake him up suddenly however if you like to jam out till the wee hours of the morning he would NOT report you to the authorities ;) 6) Jett will need his right ear cleaned daily due to years of neglect. If not it gets goopy and gross. (no formal medical terms here). His ear canal has calcified causing a chronic ear infection however he doesn't present any signs of being in pain. His nub is always going with a smile on his face. He is a perfect gentleman during cleaning too. He just loves all of his new found attention. He loves bath time and getting brushed! 7) NO STAIRS!! Jett is still learning what it is like to be inside! He spent his life outdoors and while he has adjusted to being inside he is still figuring some things out. That the water bowl will always be full. That a dog bed is for him and he doesn't need to sleep on the floor. Jett would do best with someone was home all day or would be able to let him out to potty every 4-5 hours. If you want to take him with you... he LOVES the car!!! Jett is not perfect. He's not that young pup that everyone is dying to buy at Christmas time. We don't have a waiting list for hard of hearing/seeing bulldogs over 5YO. We are hoping there is someone out there that can open their heart and their home for a sweet man who just needs to rest his bones on a nice pillow in front of the bonfire (with a firescreen, cuz you know, we don't want to BBQ him)! NOW A FEW WORDS FROM JETT: "My last family treated me like trash - but what I can offer to you as a forever pal is pure treasure! I know what you're thinking.... 'Forever? How long is that old timer - aren't you past your sell-by date??' Forever may not be very long for me, I have no idea how much time I have left....but forever in your heart will be a very, very long time. Who wouldn't want that kind of forever?" *** Jett's adoption donation is $350 ***

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
