owners surrendered him to a shelter with multiple “mysterious” injuries they claimed they knew nothing about. His wounds were treated, he has healed well, and has been left with a temporary patchy coat from being shaved in several places in order to treat his wounds. Willie is an active dog who can leap over a baby gate with ease. He will need a moderate amount of exercise to keep him stimulated. A bored terrier can be a mischievous terrier. He knows his name well and comes when he is called. Willie is potty trained and crate trained. He sleeps in his crate for up to 9 hours at night with no accidents and no complaining. Willie lives with several other dogs in his foster home and gets along with them, but he sometimes tries to be bossy with some of them. He does not have a history with any cats. He is good with respectful children, but will jump up on them, so a home without very young children might be best for him. Willie’s claim to fame is that he has a BLACK tongue! Very cute! Willie is not much for playing with toys. He isn’t interested in fetch or tug. He plays hard and enjoys wrestling with other active dogs. Willie will do best if in a home where all the dogs are up for a good wrestling match! In contrast, however, he also enjoys cuddling with his person. He loves sitting with his person to get snuggles and pets. If Willie sounds like a perfect dog for your family, fill out an application and Willie will come to meet you. Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Please go to our website www.wagsmn.org and fill out an Adoption Application. Once the application is processed, a Wags representative will contact you, answer any questions you may have, and set up a time/location for a meet and greet! A home visit is required prior to adoption. Wags & Whiskers adopts animals within a 60 mile radius of the Twin Cities or a 30 minute radius of Duluth, Rochester, and Mankato. Thank you for choosing to adopt! Breed and temperament determination: Wags & Whiskers Animal Rescue attempts to determine breed and temperament using a combination of looks, information provided to us at intake, and our experience with the animal while in our Rescue. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
