o most states, through partner networks. Virtual meet n greets can be arranged for all non-local adopters. Meet Bridgette! Bridgette recently became a tripod, though we suspect the dead leg was an older untreated injury. And unfortunately she ended up with a torn CCL in a back leg while in a foster home. She is currently in a medical foster home in NY where she is recovering from her CCL surgery done on 10/16. Yes, a tripod in the front and CCL injury in the back!! This girl is a survivor. Bridgette will soon be ready for her furever home. We are hoping to find a calm, stress free furever home, probably with someone who is home alot! This precious soul has been through so much and she's pulled through, only to be hit with set back after set back more recently. She had overcome all her obstacles but definitely showed signs of shutting down as her confidence was shaken to the core while in another foster home where she tore a CCL. ********************* Sweet Bridgette found herself in a high kill shelter in NC through no fault of their own. A stray, emaciated and with a non-functioning leg, the shelter put her on the euthanasia list, along with another sweet pup Ellie, who had been hit by a car. These girls had survived horror and they were still here, yet they found themselves fighting for their lives in the shelter - we could not let them down. Our rescue partnered with a medical rescue group to save these girls from euthanasia and get them to hospital for their treatment and surgeries. Just check out their 'freedom' ride together the day we got them out of the shelter!! Even with their injuries, tails are wagging and ears flopping, they knew they were free and now in good hands! Bridgette is at a healthy weight, had an amputation, and as you can see from her video, she is a very happy fully functioning tripod! The hospital at the time also suspected she also had chronic CCL disease in her knees. Link to album, showing before and after surgery photos and videos: photos.app.goo.gl/dY1wQhJtciJJUUye9 Wagging tails and happy to accept pupperonis as sympathy gifts! Bridgette is still a young pup, very loving and just look at her stunning coat and ooooooh, those eyes!! If you are interested in loving this precious girl, please contact Aly on 732 604 0625 ASAP! To apply to adopt, click on .arcadiarescue/application. If the pet you applied for is no longer available, .arcadiarescue/adopt to see all of our available pets. Note: Some pups are in boarding facilities in order to save their lives. This is far from ideal, they really need to be in loving homes. Due to record number owner surrenders this year, we have zero foster homes available. Fostering helps save another pup from euthanasia in an overcrowded kill shelter needing to free up a kennel. If you can foster, go to .arcadiarescue/foster and fill out a foster application. Thank you!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
