is a 2-3 year old, 6 pound, female chihuahua who found herself at a Louisiana shelter after her human mother passed away and there was no one who could care for her. When her foster mother found her at the shelter, Rosie was wrapped in a pink sweater but was still shaking with fear. Every time she heard a car she was sure it was her mama coming to pick her up and would look around with hope in her eyes. It took weeks for her to get through the grieving process and to stop looking for her former family. Finally, her tail started to wag again and her ears stood up like a happy chihuahua. She now knows there can be love from someone else and that life will be OK. Rosie loves to go for walks and does very well on a leash. She is potty trained and can go all night without an accident. She loves sleeping in bed with her foster mom and is the perfect bed companion, not making a noise all night long. Rosie would prefer a calm household with older children. She is small and delicate and would probably not do well with younger children who might play too roughly with her. She does very well with other dogs and even cats. She is not food or toy aggressive and will always give in to her foster dog siblings if there is an argument. She loves to go outside in the sun in the afternoon to roll in the grass and play with the other dogs. Typical of many Chihuahuas, Rosie is shy and fearful around strangers. She prefers her environment to be calm and quiet. Rosie photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/jfFRejWRIYyw2ZLy1 Rosie is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and current on vaccinations, deworming and monthly heartworm/flea prevention. Hurry and apply for this little doll today by emailing us at TheChiSociety@gmail.com All of our dogs are spayed/ neutered before adoption. Adult dogs have had their core vaccines---parvo, distemper, bordatella, and rabies, All dogs are tested and are heartworm negative. In addition they have been de-wormed and kept on heartworm prevention and flea prevention while in foster care. Most dogs come with a micr-chip already implanted. Adoption fees range from 235.00- 275.00 depending on the dog. Many times the adoption fee does not even cover the cost of all of the vetting we have done for a dog. In addition, some of our dogs are fostered in the South and come up once adopted---There is an additional transport fee for these dogs. Please contact the person listed in the bio for more information on a particular dog. We are very careful in placing our dogs--and look for the best home for each dog--All of our dogs are fostered in private homes, with fosters who get to know the dogs and know the types of home that would be best for each dog. Thank you for considering a rescued pet and we look forward to helping you find a great dog match--

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
