ed by the our medical partners. If breed and eventual size are of great importance we suggest looking into a breed specific rescue or adopting a full grown animal. Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY. Introducing Foxy, a beautiful senior soul whose journey embodies the resilience of animals and the boundless capacity for love that they possess. Foxy's story is one of heartache and healing, of finding solace in a new family after a life-altering abandonment. Foxy's journey to St. Francis Farm began with an act of kindness from a friend of one of our employees. Witnessing her heart-wrenching abandonment on the side of the road by the only family she had ever known, they swooped in to rescue her from that cruel fate. Providing her with care and comfort for a night, they ensured she was brought to our sanctuary, where her second chance at happiness truly began. Now a cherished member of our family, Foxy's presence brings warmth and joy to all who know her. Despite the pain of her past, she exudes a remarkable capacity for love and affection. Her gentle spirit and deep appreciation for human connection are a testament to the resilience that lies within every rescue animal. Foxy's love for human interaction is palpable. She thrives in the warmth of a loving embrace, often seeking out the comfort of being held close. Her fondness for burrowing under blankets speaks to her desire for a cozy haven where she can feel safe and loved. As Foxy navigates her senior years, she has forged meaningful connections around the farm. Her ability to get along well with both fellow canines and even Bubba the cat is a testament to her kind nature and her open heart. Foxy's journey reminds us that age is just a number, and the capacity to bring happiness and companionship knows no bounds. At the time of adoption a donation is required before the animal is placed in an adoptive home. $600 - All dogs $300 - For dogs deemed seniors by LCAR (generally 8rs and older) $200- For senior citizens (over 65 yrs of age) adopting senior dogs $150 - For Kittens $125 - For Cats *IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THIS ANIMAL, PLEASE SUBMIT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION ( Dog / Cat ) AND ONCE APPROVED, SOMEONE FROM THIS ORGANIZATION WILL CONTACT YOU. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
