I am on a very nice schedule now, I get to go to work with foster momma every day so I can meet all kinds of new people. I have never met anyone I didn't like, and that includes pups too. I am a very quiet boy until I get excited, when I hear someone come into foster momma's work,I make myself be heard with a shrill bark because I want to meet them right away and give them some true lovin'. I am the perfect pup, I love going outside to explore (I need a fenced yard) and I love going on long walks the best. I want to find my forever home that already has a pup because I really like to play and I love the companionship. But if you don't have a pup already, I would love to have your attention 24/7. I get to sleep in the big bed and once I'm asleep, it's nearly impossible to wake me up unless it's time for breakfast! I am a hearty eater, I never pass up my meals, I am fed twice daily with some healthy treats during the day. My adoption fee is $400.00 9-29-16 I'm just one sweet, loving and cuddly boy! My foster mommy takes me to work everyday so I can be socialized. Well, I love everyone, even polite children. I have never growled at anyone, I just want love from everybunny! My potty training is going really well, I let foster mom know when I need to use the yard for my business. I have gained a few much needed ounces and I will never turn away from a good breakfast or dinner. I sleep in the 'big bed' and am totally trustworthy. I love toys and fetch, still trying to understand that I must let go of the ball when foster mom tells me to 'leave it'. I am very low maintenance, I love walks with my other foster brother. 8-30-2016 My name is Sammy, and I come when I am called! I'm doing wonderfully well in my foster home and I get along with all pups. I went to our Dog Dayz Fundraiser and showed off my handsome self. No one heard a grumble out of me cause I am so well behaved! I love all people who show respect. I'm a little nervous around children, they run and make lots of noise. Hope to see an application from you soon! I'm ready to find my forever home! 8-23-2016 Ya wanna know something? I do not come when someone calls my name! My foster momma is going to change my name soon. My favorite name is Sammy, like Sam Elliott! I'm a very handsome, unique dude that's looking for love in all the right places. I love being outside. Every time the door opens, I'm out either exploring or sunning myself. When foster mom whistles, I come a running. I love toys and I'm learning to play fetch. I think I will be pretty good at it. I could eat my way to China too. I have a voracious appetite that just doesn't quit. I get fed breakfast and dinner. Foster mom doesn't believe in free feeding. Good thing, cause I would lose my physique and become rather rolley poley! I love all people, specially the ones who pay lots of attention to me. I seldom bark, sometimes when a foster sister chases me and jumps on me. I let them know that nice girls don't chase boys... I still need a securely fenced in backyard. I love exploring and it's hard to do with a leash. Foster mom just doesn't have the speed I have! 8-19-2016 Jack has fit into his foster home perfectly. He loves to snuggle and get neck and chest rubs. Jack is not quite potty trained, but he will need time to learn that outside is for potty. He gets along with the other pups and is as far from an alpha dog as can be. He is very mellow now and feeling much better after his surgery. Jack says he would love another playmate with four legs. He also let us know he doesn't want to be adopted into a family with children under 12 years of age. 8-17-2016 Jack had all of his vetting done today. He is UTD on all vaccinations, neutered, HW- and microchipped. He did very well and is resting in his foster home. Jack will need a yard with a very secure fence. Intake 8-16-2016 Jack was used to barter drugs. He came into rescue when a friend of A Promise of Love Rescue took him under her wings to get him away from the drug dealers. Not much is known about Jack, he will be in rescue for 3-6 weeks so we can see his personality and likes and dislikes. So far, he is very playful and wants to play with the others around him.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
