ile for future adoption consideration. * Female Chihuahua mix * Approximately 4 years old * Approximately 5 pounds * House trained * Crate trained * Okay with other dogs, not sure about cats * Adoption fee: $400 All dogs with PUP are in private foster homes so we can provide our potential adopters the most current information available. Health: De De has been spayed and microchipped. She is current on her DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. She has been wormed and flea treated, and tested negative for heartworm. History: De De comes from an overcrowded shelter in California. PUP was asked to help and we are so glad we did. All dogs PUP pulls from California come with health certificates, as required by Washington state. Notes from De De's Foster Home: One of the most rewarding parts of fostering is helping a frightened, timid pup become more trusting and confident. DeDe is one such dog and she is making great strides! Weighing in at a whopping 5 lbs, DeDe is proving to have a BIG personality when she is comfortable in her surroundings. She is very animated and puppy-like and truly enjoys being with her person. This cutie pie follows her foster mom everywhere in the house and is so devoted to her. She is crate trained and house trained on a schedule and enjoys exploring in our fenced yard. She gets along just fine with the resident dogs who are respectful of her quiet nature. DeDe is working on her confidence when in new places and around new people. She enjoys her walks and has been out- and-about in the community, learning the world is not such a scary place. A quiet, low-key, predictable home would be best for DeDe. Dede will need a family who has experience with timid dogs. Fostering DeDe over the past several weeks has been a wonderful experience and she is absolutely DeDe-lightful! With time and patience, she will settle in with her new family where her personality will truly shine! Note: The above description reflects the behavior we have observed in the dog's foster home. Although PUP provides adopters up to the minute information on our dogs, we cannot guarantee they will behave in the same manner in a different environment with new owners. Adoption: If you think you have room in your home and heart for this dog and you reside within Washington State, please go to our Adoption Information page. There you will find more information and be able to fill out an adoption application. ATTEND OUR NEXT PUP EVENT!!! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
