kept on file for future adoption consideration. * Male Chihuahua mix * Approximately 1 year old * Approximately 12 pounds * House trained * Crate trained * Okay with other dogs, not sure about cats * Dog respectful children 12 and older * Adoption fee: $285 All dogs with PUP are in private foster homes so we can provide our potential adopters the most current information available. Due to the fact that this is a mixed breed dog, we, nor our vets, cannot guarantee the size that your dog will be. Health: Frisco has been neutered and microchipped. He is current on his DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. He has been wormed and flea treated. History: Frisco was born June 2, 2018. His Mom was pregnant when rescued from a shelter in Merced, CA. Frisco and his siblings were born while in the care of their foster moms. Because he is a mixed breed we are unable to determine how big he will be once full grown. Notes from Frisco's Foster Home: Frisco is a sweet, young boy with a heart of gold. Though he can be cautious when thrust into new situations and meeting people, we have been exposing him to as many new situations and people as possible and we are clearly seeing him adjusting more quickly and in a more confident way. Be assured that once Frisco gets comfortable, he shows his playful, goofy side and he is a silly delight to have around! He gets along well with other dogs and joyfully joins in on dog games (like chasing each other around in the yard or playing tug of war), but he definitely has a quiet side, too, and he really adores attention from his people, often plopping himself down next to us - or even right onto us! - and snuggling up for attention. Frisco is wonderful in his crate. He willingly goes into his crate to eat, to enjoy a treat or chew toy whenever we leave the house for a short time during the day (he loves Nylabones and stuffed Kongs), and he sleeps through the night and rides in the car in his crate without making a peep. He is fully housetrained and has learned to sit; he is working on the stay command and especially enjoys the agility training that we’ve done with him (he gracefully hops over the bars without much prodding and quickly learned to run through the tunnel even though he was intimidated by it at first). Frisco loves going on walks along with other dogs in our house and he does quite well on a leash. His ideal family is one who enjoys his fun side but also understands his need for measured introductions and who is willing to continue to patiently expose him to new situations in order to keep building his budding confidence (if his forever family has children, we recommend that they be age 12 or older; we have seen him build trust and have fun with our teens because they had the maturity to earn his trust in steps). Truly, we’re so proud of how much this fantastic and loving boy has already learned and we feel strongly that a loving family with a commitment to doing what is right for Frisco will be repaid tenfold with a treasured companion for many years to come. Note: The above description reflects the behavior we ow. have observed in the dog's foster home. Although PUP provides adopters up to the minute information on our dogs, we cannot guarantee they will behave in the same manner in a different environment with new owners. Adoption: If you think you have room in your home and heart for this dog and you reside within Washington State, please go to our Adoption Information page. There you will find more information and be able to fill out an adoption application. ATTEND OUR NEXT PUP EVENT!!! (click here) Can you help save more dogs by Fostering? Become our fan on Facebook! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
