ile for future adoption consideration. * Female Chihuahua mix * Approximately 2 years old * Approximately 6.8 lbs. * House trained on a schedule * Crate trained * Okay with other dogs, tolerates cats * Dog respectful children 8 and older * Adoption fee: $500 All dogs with PUP are in private foster homes so we can provide our potential adopters the most current information available. Health: Sarah has been spayed and microchipped. She is current on her DHPP, Bordetella, and Rabies. She has been wormed and flea treated, and tested negative for heartworm. History: Sarah comes from an overcrowded shelter in California. PUP was asked to help and we are so glad we did. All dogs PUP pulls from California come with health certificates, as required by Washington state. Notes from Sarah's Foster Home: Sarah is a little sweetheart. She adores people and is always seeking attention. She is full of endless kisses and snuggles. She can be initially shy, but it doesn't take long for her to warm up to new people. She spends her days following her foster parents around the house. She is very quiet and mellow, but she'll occasionally burn a circle in the backyard, play chase with her foster brother, or play fetch with a mini tennis ball. Most of the time she prefers to cuddle up in her foster mom's lap. Sarah is an alpha female, so while she does well with dogs her size, she will occasionally police them when they get too rambunctious, and she’s not afraid to let them know that she’s boss. Sarah has been observed around children 7 years and older and she does well around them. When she was introduced to a cat, she growled and was curious but did not give chase and eventually just ignored the cat. She's crate trained and sleeps in her crate throughout the night. She's house trained on a schedule. Sarah would do well in a MELLOW home as a solo dog or with other dogs her size. She may come in a small package, but she certainly has a lot of love to give ! Note: The above description reflects the behavior we have observed in the dog's foster home. Although PUP provides adopters up to the minute information on our dogs, we cannot guarantee they will behave in the same manner in a different environment with new owners. Adoption: If you think you have room in your home and heart for this dog and you reside within Washington State, please go to our Adoption Information page. There you will find more information and be able to fill out an adoption application. ATTEND OUR NEXT PUP EVENT!!! (click here) Can you help save more dogs by Fostering? Become our fan on Facebook! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
