Hey there everybody! My name is Chevy and I’m a playful and wacky woman around 3 years old that likes to run around as fast as I can and play all day with other fun dogs like me! They say I am a Shar Pei Lab mix, but I say I’m a floppy ear curly tail mix. I came to Power of the Paw after doing a stint in Post Falls Animal Safety, but I swear they got the wrong dog. I’m an innocent pup. I’m way happier now that I’m in a loving foster home serving my time on house arrest. Here’s the thing. I talked to my PO last week and she said I’m finally clear to be adopted into a family of my very own! I can even leave the state or the country for the perfect applicant. Before I was arrested, I was living the high life, partying with other dogs, staying out until the wee hours of the morning sniffing around the alley ways for free snacks. I was a true free spirit. Those were the days. I learned how to be social will all sorts of other dogs, and I met all kinds of people and I really loved them all. I think that adults are awesome, and even though I am energetic and playful, I have no problems respecting them. I would also be happy to share my future home with the small people. They have such cute little voices and they always like to put their tiny fingers through my hair and give me their love. I’m also willing to share my space with kitties that have experience around dogs. Since I’ve been on house arrest, I’ve been learning some really valuable lessons, like the importance of only going to the bathroom outside, which I’ve really gotten the hang of. I have also been working hard on relaxing and enjoying my time when I have to stay in my crate. I don’t mind it so much, but as soon as I get this ankle bracelet off, I’m wishing on my lucky stars that I can be with a family that doesn’t need to put me in my crate that often because we will be too busy spending all of our time adventuring together. I do have to warn you- after spending all that time in solitary with nothing to look at but the shadows coming in through the window, I have a bit of a shadow obsession and I can literally spend hour after hour chasing shadows. Like I said, I’m an innocent pup. The whole thing was just a misunderstanding and I’m so ready to put the memories of the shelter behind me and start living my life with a family of my own. If you think that you might be the perfect family for me, please do apply at www.powerofthepaw.org. I absolutely can’t wait to meet you. Thank you for thinking adoption first and giving a jailbird like me a second chance at life! ADOPTION FEE 200.00$ Includes spay, microchip, vaccinations, deworming and a vet examination!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
