et's get to know me! Name: Baby Bear Breed: Chiweenie (Chihuahua/Dauchshund mix) Estimated Age/Birthdate: 2 years Weight: 9.2 pounds Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Unknown Good with men: Yes, I am a little shy Good with women: Yes, I am a little shy House trained: Almost, working on it-I will use a pee pad Crate trained: Yes Leash trained: Working on it Must have a fenced in yard: No Adoption Fee: $250.00 Date into Rescue: 3/18/2018 Here is my story: We were surrendered by our owner to these great folks as she had too many dogs and could not care for us. I am a bit on the shy side and need time to get to know you. If you are patient with me I will become your best friend. My foster mom says that "snuggles" are my favorite. I just love all of the attention. I am a quiet boy who will sit on the couch with you or catch a nap in the sunshine. I need some help to finish my house training ( I will use a pee pad) and someone who can spend time teaching me to walk on a leash. I would love to explore this great big world. There is so much to see and smell! My ideal home will have another, older, more confident pup in the house for me to learn from. Someone needs to be home, at least part of the day, to be able to spend time and work with me. Children can be scary so no children under 12, please. If this sounds like your home, please go to our web page and apply. Please submit an application on our website: http://allbreedanimalrescue.com/adopt-a-dog/dog-adoption-application/ All adopters must be 21 or older. All applicants must submit an application for review, which can take up to 14 days to process upon receipt. Once the preliminary application is approved a home visit is required to complete the adoption process. All adopters must enter into a legal and binding contract upon completion of the adoption. For adult dogs the fee is $250. For puppies the adoption fee is $300. For dogs deemed to be seniors, for their particular breed, the adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes vet exam, spay/neuter, microchip, age appropriate vaccinations, flea prevention, worm treatment and heart worm test. All our pets are fostered in a home, are started on crate training & with dog door training. They are also socialized with other pets in their foster home by the time of adoption. Adult dogs come with a two week trial to make sure it is a good fit.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
