in is an adorable “Chiweenie” which is just a fancy word for a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. She is 9 months old and a teeny 8#. Pippen was rescued from a rural Louisiana shelter and is now looking for her forever home up north thanks to The Chi Society. This little lady has 2 hilarious nicknames (Pip Pip Hooray and Pippy Longstocking) and everyone who meets her, falls in love. Her foster mom says, “Pippin is a very friendly and loving puppy! She loves all people and dogs. She is very active and loves to run and play with anything/anyone. When she gets tired she is very snuggly and loves to be petted. Pip is doing well with housetraining and is crate trained (she goes in the crate when her foster mom is at work). She walks nicely on leash and loves walking in the neighborhood and greeting new people and dogs. She isn’t fostered with kids but has been around middle-aged kids in her neighborhood and runs around with them and lets them hold and cuddle her. Pippin hasn’t been around cats to our knowledge. She is excellent with other dogs and enjoys playing with them. Pippen is still a puppy, so she does like to find things to chew on (pens and toilet paper rolls especially). If she has something else to chew on, like a bone, she will choose that over what she isn't supposed to chew on. I try to have a bone laying around the house for her at all times. Pippen would do best in a home with another playful dog and a back yard for her to run her afternoon laps in. She is fine with or without children. My favorite thing about Pippen is her spunky and playful personality!” Please email TheChiSociety@gmail.com to apply for this cute young lady! Pippin photos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/6uueLl2p2mSNTmoh2 Pippin video: https://youtu.be/_AwhpfkSRKg Pippin is spayed, microchipped, current on all vaccines, heartworm negative and current on monthly heartworm and flea prevention. All of our dogs are spayed/ neutered before adoption. Adult dogs have had their core vaccines---parvo, distemper, bordatella, and rabies, All dogs are tested and are heartworm negative. In addition they have been de-wormed and kept on heartworm prevention and flea prevention while in foster care. Most dogs come with a micr-chip already implanted. Adoption fees range from 235.00- 275.00 depending on the dog. Many times the adoption fee does not even cover the cost of all of the vetting we have done for a dog. In addition, some of our dogs are fostered in the South and come up once adopted---There is an additional transport fee for these dogs. Please contact the person listed in the bio for more information on a particular dog. We are very careful in placing our dogs--and look for the best home for each dog--All of our dogs are fostered in private homes, with fosters who get to know the dogs and know the types of home that would be best for each dog. Thank you for considering a rescued pet and we look forward to helping you find a great dog match--

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
