foster mom calls me Skinny Minnie or Mindo. I am looking for a forever home that will have the ability to take care of me medically and understand my special needs. From what the wonderful vets at MARS can tell is that I have IBS. It is very hard for me to gain any weight due to this illness and that is where the name Skinny Minnie comes from. You can see my ribs and my hip bones but I am such a happy playful pup that MARS is doing everything to help me get better. I have a ton of personality and I mean A TON! I really enjoy spending time with my foster mom and know that I wiill love spending time with that forever family that gives me a chance. I have been working on going potty outside without my foster mom standing right there and I am doing well. I have also been doing really well going on potty pads when I am unable to hold it. Due to my disease I am pretty much always hungry. I like small meals throughout the day. Right now I usually get 4 meals spread out. I cannot have any extra treats as they can make me sick. I do need a special food but it lasts me a long time. I have been doing very well without prednisone and now am down to 1/4 a tablet at night. It is a very cheap medication and I hope to be off of it soon. I am good with other dogs but sometimes I like to be the fun police when my foster brothers and sisters are playing. I usually yell at them to tell them to be quiet. I would love someone that is home often. Though I go in my crate I am not really a fan but I will sit in there quietly during the day. I do know how to escape out of wire crates so it is plastic crates for me. I rarely have an accident in my crate during the day and my foster mom is gone all day at work. I am not a fan of little kids and sometimes I can be grouchy and tell you so. Sometimes it is with a nip so it is best that this girl go to a home with no kids or older respectful kids. I really am a pretty amazing little dog. When most people meet me they fall in love. People are my niche and I really know how to put on the charm. So what do you say? You want to take me home? Me and you can be best buddies. Please feel free to fill out an ADOPTION APPLICATION by clicking on the ADOPT button below. Thank You! or //

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
