dogs as we have observed in relationship to age, size, breed, behavior, housebreaking, crate training, good with children, cats, dogs, and strangers. Dogs may present themselves differently in different environments, therefore The Dog Spot Rescue, their agents, volunteers, can not guarantee behavior, age, size expectations, breed, house Training, destructive behavior tendencies, and/or medical issues. All dogs from shelters have been subjected to pathogens from the shelter level which can materialize into disease in the future. Each adopter must observe for themselves pre-adoption and make decisions for themselves the suitability of said dog and their tolerance levels for transitional time when adopting a shelter dog. We ask that each adopter take their time when making the choice to bring home a rescued dog. Farrah is a blond bombshell with a happy face and loveable soul. She is a Golden Retriever mix with long butter blond hair and big brown eyes that will melt your heart. She came from a shelter with no known back story. . She is doing well with dogs her own size and has been olite to the smaller dogs here . She needs the right fit for a dog companion. alpha females would not work for her. She can sit, shake and lay down on command. She is non food aggressive, takes treats gently. Farrah should be in an well experienced adult or home with older children. She needs a social household who will take her places, continue her training, have experience with a larger dog and have confidence in handling dogs. She can be enthusastic and needs an owner that can curb her in a bit. She was barrier aggressive when she came but we have worked on that and she no longer even thinks about it here.. (Barking at dogs on the other side of the fence) For this reason, we do not want her to be a 40 hour a week backyard dog and be by herself as boredom can start that up for any dog. She is good with dogs to a point but needs the right match for her. A submissive similar sized male would be the best choice for her. She is a goofball about water and loves to chase the water out of a hose. She is also a swimmer and loves the lake behind our place. Farrah is looking for an experienced dog owner who can give her the time, continued social opportunities and love that she deserves. Adoption is $450.00 and includes her spay, rabies, heart worm test, bordetella, de worming treatment, flea meds applied by the vet for this month, shots, chip. If interested in meeting Farrah, please fill out an on line application at: thedogspot.rescuegroups.org and then contact us for a meet and greet by e-mailing: thedogspotrescue@aol.com . During the week , she can be seen in the Merced area where she is fostered. Your Adoption Fee covers the following expenses: Spay/Neuter, DHLPP, Bordatella, Rabies (if age appropriate), De-worming and Frontline/Advantage Please Note: Shelter/rescue dogs have been exposed to many pathogens such as kennel cough, parasites, diseases and conditions some of which may not have been discovered prior to adoption. Any dog that shows symptoms here at TDS are routinely identified, taken for tests and treatment. Our vet bills can exceed $10,000 a month. However, without symptoms, we may miss a disease, or pre-existing condition or parasite. Consider carefully if you have the tolerance for these possibilities. We consider, you, the adopters, the last leg of the rescue process.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
