ce need apply. INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY: PLEASE read profile thoroughly BEFORE applying: DOG APPLICATION LINK: .roadtorescuela/dog-application RESERVING A PUPPY: If your application is approved you will be contacted by phone. Specific puppies are only reserved with a deposit once the approved adopter is notified. NAME: Baby Kola Nut – female DOB: 4/16/2019 (born to Pili Nut) Breed: Cocker/Golden (mom side); Shih Tzu mix (supposedly dad side) Size potential (estimate): 15-25 pounds (mom’s weight 14.2 pounds) Adoption fee and vetting: $250, which comes with $50 spay/neuter REBATE coupon redeemable once puppy is spayed/neutered no later than 6 months of age; includes age-appropriate vaccinations (at least two, plus Bordetella); deworming; microchip and microchip enrollment fee Good with other dogs: yes Cats: yes Health issues: none found Biography: Pili Nut came to us from Caddo Parish Animal Services. She was surrendered there by her owner because she was pregnant (sigh). She came to us on 4/11/2019, and 5 days later, she delivered 3 healthy girls. They’ve been lovingly raised in the home of our puppy foster mom, Vicki. Momma has since weaned her girls and she has left the nest. We are now taking applications for her girls. They have a cautious personality when they are in unfamiliar surroundings, but their foster mommy is slowly introducing them in certain areas that will be safe for them until they can get all of their puppy vaccinations. When they are in their safe-zone of their puppy pen, they are playful and funny and simply a joy to be around! These puppies will not be small, but will likely be medium-sized when fully grown. It is always difficult to gauge size, especially when we don’t know the breed of the father. We were told he may have been a Shih Tzu... but we don’t know that for sure. If you think one of these beauties can fill a spot in your heart and home, we’d love to hear from you! PUPPIES! Keep in mind, puppies teeth just like human babies and have little sharp toenails. They will also have behaviors that require training. Puppies will chew, bite, nip, bark, destroy, dig, scratch, etc. The puppy phase lasts about 18 months (sometimes longer), so be sure you ARE READY for the commitment! Also, a puppy can only hold their bladder for a short period of time based upon their age. If the puppy is 2 months old, they can hold their bladder for 2 hours; 3 months/3 hours; 4 months/ 4 hours, etc., up to 6 months of age. At about 6 months of age, this time frame stables out. Puppies are a 10-15 year commitment (sometimes longer). Please be sure you are prepared for the life of the puppy! In conclusion, if your puppy is in a responsible home that provides daily structure, training and socialization with people and other pets, your puppy will grow to be a well-adjusted and wonderful part of your family for many years to come. PROTECT YOUR PUPPY! They have not been outside their puppy pen except for when it’s time to clean and even then they are placed into a secured kennel. They have been completely protected the entire time. They can have limited access to other areas once they receive their second vaccinations, but it’s important to know that until they are fully vaccinated with a full course of puppy shots, they are susceptible to certain puppy diseases/viruses such as the number one puppy killer... PARVO. It’s important to keep your puppy away from high-traffic stores or areas where there is a potential that there are unvaccinated dogs or areas where you know there were puppies that have had or have parvo. Parvo is a silent killer and is every where... so just like you would a newborn human baby... protect your puppy. SPAY/NEUTER REBATE PROGRAM: Due to the age of this pet, he/she may not be spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. If this is the case, you will receive a $50 rebate coupon which will entitle you to a rebate of $50 once your pet is spayed/neutered and valid ONLY IF DONE ON OR BEFORE 6 MONTHS OF AGE! It is REQUIRED and part of our adoption contract that all unaltered pets be spayed/neutered no later than 6 months of age and we DO follow up! **IMPORTANT NOTES** *We do adopt out of state provided the adopter is willing and able to travel to us once approved. We do not ship or transport our animals and there is no exception to this rule. *All of our adoptable dogs are small, and they are never to be left outside alone, ever! We only rehome our dogs to adopters that plan to have them as inside dogs and part of the family! We do allow adopters with doggie doors, provided there is SECURE fencing. There is no exception to this rule! *NO SMALL CHILDREN!! As with almost all the dogs at NR2R, young children or a very active household is not recommended. Many of our dogs come to us BECAUSE of small children, thus we do not rehome our dogs to homes with babies or young children. KEEP THIS IN MIND IF YOU HAVE VISITING GRANDCHILDREN AS WELL! Even if the children are older, it would depend on the child AND the parent or parents. *HOUSETRAINING: We do NOT guarantee that any of our adoptable dogs are housetrained. While most should be easily trained, keep in mind that they live in a rescue where they have access to the outdoors all day and are inside at night. Even if they were surrendered to us as housetrained, it doesn’t mean they will automatically be housetrained in your home. Housetraining them should be easy in the right home with time, patience, and consistency. *We do not guarantee the age, health or temperament of any of the dogs we rehome. Many of the dogs we take in come from animal control and rarely do we have histories and even when we do, many times the histories are inaccurate. *Only adopters with a responsible dog ownership history and excellent vet reference need apply. If you bring this pet into your heart and home, you will receive in return many years of love, companionship, and loyalty. That’s our guarantee. Other notes: This pet is available for adoption through Ninna’s Road to Rescue, Benton, La. We are 501c3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to rescue small-breed dogs and a handful of cats and to re-home them into RESPONSIBLE and CARING forever homes. DOG APPLICATION LINK: .roadtorescuela/dog-application Time may be of the essence if you are looking to adopt a specific animal. We do not reserve animals, unless and until we have approved your application, provided the animal is still available at the time we receive your application. The first APPROVED application we receive will be considered. We are NOT a first come, first serve rescue!! We adopt our rescues out to the RIGHT home, not just A home. Only responsible pet owners need apply. Applying to adopt does NOT commit you to the adoption until you’ve met the pet (unless you already have and know you want to adopt the pet). CONTACT: Our adoptable pets are updated regularly, but if you want to check the availability of a pet... OR still have questions AFTER reading this profile, message us via our Facebook page. Please indicate the name when communicating with us. .RoadtoRescueLA

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
