as we drop the g on words, so my name is Diva Darlin’, but if I move up North and you think the g is a Good Girl thing, go ahead and put it back on there. Foster Mommy jokes that I have two sides to my coin. One is a Diva (some human word that I am sure means SUPER GOOD GIRL) and the other side is obvious, I am darling. I don’t know if I have two sides, but I defurnitely have 2 colors, black and white. I am one half of a sister pair of doggies found near the La Bahia historical site in Goliad, Texas along with a dozen donuts of puppies. The Rescue Mama is not sure which puppies go with which mommy dog, but it doesn’t matter because they think we are sisters so it’s all the same blood relations. I am either an Aunt 1-12 times over, or a Mommy somewhere between 1 and 12 times over. I am smaller than my sister at just 23 pounds and the same age of 2 years. My dainty fluffy features make the Rescue Mama think of a Cocker Spaniel or King Cavalier mix. I mostly enjoy being a chili dog and lounging and surveying my newly found kingdom. But if you want to see my half nubby tail get the wiggles, bring some children over for a visit. I especially loved a 6 year old little girl that came by the other day. Hint, children drop snacks, it is always a good idea to be their friend. I am great with all dogs. I am not really into rumbling and tumbling though, I prefer to watch the others have fun. I have been a very easy house guest for my Rescue Mama. I would like a home with or without kids, I am flexible. Plus I am fine around cats. I am house and crate trained, but just like my sister Cindy Sue it's not necessary to crate me, I won’t go on a path of destruction, I will prob just take naps until you get home. I am a courtesy post for another rescue called Scurvy Dog Rescue. God's Dogs Rescue helps the smaller group out by posting me and transporting me to you, but you are actually adopting me from Scurvy Dog Rescue. I am fully vetted and microchipped. Just email AdoptionsGodsadogsrescue and tell them you want ME! Just email AdoptionsGodsadogsrescue and tell them you want ME! 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
