This precious Angels were rescued late August, 2017 from Alabama in deplorable condition and have been living in a foster home together since their arrival to New York. They are at the Vet’s today for a check up and dentals. In the coming months, we hope to raise enough funds for Sassy’s cataract surgery to restore her eyesight. She is extremely friendly and loving and get along well with other dogs. THE WORSE CASE OF ANIMAL CRUELTY IN COLBERT COUNTY ALABAMA WILL BE HEADING OUR WAY FOR A NEW LIFE! In July, four Cocker Spaniels and a cat were confiscated from a home in Colbert County Alabama. These poor dogs and cat were the victims of ANIMAL CRUELTY! According to the Colbert County shelter, this was one of the most severest cruelty cases they have ever seen! These poor Cocker Spaniels were so severely matted that they had maggots growing in their fur and skin, they had ear, eye and skin infections, three of the dogs are blind and have heart issues. With the outpour and generosity of the public the shelter was able to provide them with emergency medical care. Sadly one of the Cocker Spaniels died from heart disease, another was adopted. There are two remaining, Santana, a 15 year old male who is blind and deaf and Sassy, a 7 year old female who is partially blind and deaf. They will be heading to us for a better life as soon as we can arrange transport to get them here safely. We have contacted Pilots and Paws, but no luck so far. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated and welcomed! We are in URGENT need of a FOSTER or FOREVER home for these two Angels who have lived their entire life in squalor, severe neglect and abuse. We hoping to find them a loving FOREVER/FOSTER homes where they will be cherished for the rest of their lives. Please help us give them the life they were meant to have by completing our online application to FOSTER or ADOPT one or both of these Angels. For an application please visit our website at http://www.nyabandonedangels.com/adopt-or-foster-application. They need someone to show them LOVE and kindness as soon as they arrive! HELP us welcome them to a wonderful life! Thank you!

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
