s, big or small. Wyatt also likes to harass the cats in his foster home, he isn't aggressive just wants to play but they don't realize that. Wyatt is tolerant of well behaved children; but with any dog, there should always be adult supervision present with young children & dogs. Wyatt does not have any food or toy aggression as long as he is treated properly. He loves to be around people & will follow you everywhere, so therefore would prefer someone who can be with him as much as possible. Wyatt is non-destructive but can be a little vocal at times when he wants your attention. This little fellow does well with other dogs for companionship, but would also do well being spoiled as an only dog. Wyatt loves to lay out in the sun for a bit every day. This sweet mellow fellow also loves his naps like any good doxie does! Wyatt was cared for properly in his previous life so we had a ton of medical issues to tackle when he first came to DARE. We got everything taken care of with him and then just as he was about to be adopted he became ill....the dreaded C word. Bladder cancer. There have been lots and lots and lots of testing but no treatment for a cure has been found yet and the doctors think the best thing for him at this point is to live a happy quality life while he can...and we would have to agree. So we have added Wyatt to the list of "Forever Fosters" that we currently have and his foster family will continue to show him love and care and will make sure he remains pain free and happy...and when its time we will allow him to cross the bridge. Wyatt is being fostered in the Orlando area & will continue to get lots of TLC for his final days. You can help with his medical care by donating here: daretorescue/donation.html If you know that I am your forever dog please fill out an application at: daretorescue/adoption-application.html **Please don't forget to put my name on your application! If you can not adopt me but would like to help DARE pay for my care while I am in their care you can donate online daretorescue/donation.html or send check or money order made payable to DARE to: DARE 4495-304 Roosevelt Blvd. PMB 179 Jacksonville, FL 32210 You can also contact us at infoDAREtoRescue Even if you do not see a dog that matches what you're looking for, you may fill out a no obligation application and we will work to find a match for you. We receive dogs into foster care almost daily, so it is impossible to have every available or soon-to-be-available dog on the website.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
