Hi, I'm Oscar! I came to AADR with heartworms and a bad flea reaction, but I don't let that get me down! I'm being treated as we speak and will be heartworm free and ready for my forever home May 6th. I'm a happy boy and I hardly ever stop wagging my tail. If I am walking around, eating, or even if someone just looks at me, my tail starts thumping. I just love to love! I definitely am a social boy and love attention, but I'm curious as well. I haven't quite figured out how furniture works so I climb all over anything and everything I can get onto, so you'll have to make sure and keep food well above my level. If you have a fenced yard to explore, well that would just be wonderful because I love to look around. I may be 7 but you would never know, I can keep up just fine with my 3 year old foster brother (and I can nap just fine with my 10 year old foster brother). I do great with people and with other dogs, and I ignore cats. My foster mom thinks I am just sweet as can be. If you are looking for some love, I just might be your man! =============== Information for all dogs/adopters ============== If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. This foster home volunteer would be happy to answer and has the most up-to-date information about this dog. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will need to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 Fee added for the required Health Certificate. We will not adopt into the states of CT, RI, NH or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, please take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please visit the Adoption Information section. Transportation options are outlined in Step 3. If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other, but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well. For now, we encourage you to look for dogs on your coast.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
