cue support donation is not for the 'purchase' of a dog, but rather to cover the medical and other costs of all dogs in our care. Shelter support donations are NOT NEGOTIABLE for that reason. Please respect that and do not email us to ask. Without ongoing support and adoption fees, our rescue WILL CEASE TO EXIST!**No phone calls, EMAIL ONLY, AlphaMom33@aol.com to get an application, thank you for understanding.** **These dogs are in foster homes, not a shelter setting; therefore we only accept appointments for those reasonably sure they WILL adopt the dog for which they are applying.** This handsome lad is Haydn! *if reading this on Petfinder, go to our site on Adopt-A-Pet - it is much easier to read (google us!)!**ALL the INFO we have on this pet is found right here in this BIO, thank you for understanding! Breed: purebred Dachshund Age: 8 months Energy: lively puppy who likes to play Barking: may alert bark once he settles in Size: 16lbs. and may grow to 18-20lbs. fully grown (small Standard) Kids: over 12 please Cats: unknown Dogs: yes Health: Good health with a few skeletal issues Haydn lived in an apartment and his owners were not nice to him while housetraining him. We are working hard to undo that damage in our rescue/foster home. Haydn is 8months of age and is a handsome boy. He needs lots of TLC and ongoing kind housetraining methods! Do not apply if you are not sure how to housebreak a puppy! Hadyn was abused in his last home and we do not want to see this happen again. Haydn has a very long back, coupled with lack of muscle tone (living cooped up in an apartment with improper exercise!). We're also working on play therapy here where he's out and romps with the other dogs to build up his muscles. Haydn is a tweenie or a small Standard doxie. There's a $395 donation to adopt Haydn - please be familiar with Doxies and their long backs. Haydn shows some early signs of arthritis in one of his discs in his lower back. Haydn needs a ramp to furniture. He likes to sleep under the blankets on the bed with you! He does need regular exercise to maintain back health. You and your vet should be familiar with Doxies and back injuries for the future (ideally, all doxie owners should know this!) SEE MORE PICS AND INFO on our Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/pages/A-PAW-UP-Rescue-E-WA/92163841238 EMAIL US - AlphaMom33@aol.com TO REQUEST AN APPLICATION-We WILL RESPOND within 24 hours (usually less!) All adopters are required to pick up their new family member HERE, within a week of your application being completed and being approved to adopt. Because this is our home, we have LIMITED SPACE to keep dogs, THANK YOU for your understanding. The sooner an adoptable dog finds a home, the sooner we can rescue another! ****If you are unable to come adopt for longer than a week, a deposit ($50) and/or a $10/day donation towards boarding may apply!**** *Be aware that if you cannot adopt the puppy you've already placed a deposit on, you forfeit your deposit and it becomes a donation to our rescue.* Thank you for your understanding. **All our foster dogs and puppies have been vaccinated with Galaxy DA2PPv at least ONE TIME. When appropriate and available, they get a rabies vaccination, and they have been dewormed at least once. They come with a health record that reflects this at the time of adoption. They are also Microchipped and come with a free month of health insurance.** No meet and greets take place without a completed/approved application. **We DO allow out of state adoptions, but we DO NOT ship our pets. **These dogs are in foster homes, not a shelter setting; therefore we only accept appointments for those reasonably sure they WILL adopt the dog for which they are applying.** The rescue support donation is not for the 'purchase' of a dog, but rather to cover the medical and other costs of all dogs in our care. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
