Dachshund Dogs For Adoption in South Weymouth, SC, USA

Posted Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Hi. I’m Rusty. If you are looking for a young, fun-loving fur-baby, then I’m your boy. I enjoy running in the yard with my foster brother who is

teaching me how to be a dog. Let’s see…he’s taught me to chase squirrels and groundhogs, to pee and poo outside and to enjoy lying in the sun. I have other foster brothers that are teaching me to respect their space. So far, I’ve earned an A+. I’ve discovered the “girl next door” who is another rescue….we enjoy running along the fence line and sniffing each other thru the fence slats. As you can tell, I enjoy a fenced –in yard where I can play and enjoy the company of my own kind. In other words, I need dog-pals. I also enjoy my humans….lying in a willing lap and I’ve earned the privilege to sleep in the big bed where I love to cuddle and dream of treats, catching that elusive groundhog and of finally meeting the “girl next door.” I’m mildly cautious of strangers, but I warm-up quickly. I’m ok with children, but they are very active, so I tend to shy away. I think if they were a permanent fixture in the “pack”, I’d be okay. When my foster mom is at work, I’m in my special place….the kennel ….and I am very well behaved and enjoy my special place. My “mom” makes sure I have a couple of bones to keep me busy until she returns. Today, my mom took me for a walk on what she calls a leash. Hmmmm, I’m not too sure about this contraption….I’ve never seen one. However, I went along with the game and will need some work with my leash manners. The way I figure it, as long as my human is at the other end, I think I’ll catch on quickly. After all, it will lead to fun, lots of interesting smells, and new friends and adventure. I am looking forward to my forever home, where I will love and be loved. For additional information please contact my foster mom Kelly (Kelly.Blackstock@precisionac.com) http://littlepawsdachshundrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/form_humanverify?formid=2724 __________________________________________________________ Adoption Fee: $275.00 + $45.00 for a health certificate if going over state lines (required by law). Dogs adopted in New England are subject to additional rules and regulations by the state departments of agriculture. Complying with these regulations is expensive for our rescue, and all dogs adopted in New England states are subject to an additional $135 fee to help cover a portion of these expenses. Transportation Help If you see a furbaby that is a match for your family, don’t let distance stand in the way of your adoption. LPDR can work with you to have a volunteer transport to assist with transportation or refer you to a paid transport.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
