and no longer able to take care of them. Moe is in need of some good, old fashion TLC. Moe is shy as he didn't get the proper socialization, but he is coming out of his shell. He is a wonderful dog. Quiet. Easy-going. Housebroken in his foster home. In his previous home they lived with a total of 5 dogs and 3 cats and did well with everyone. Because none of the dogs were spayed/neutered and were likely all related to each other (start with 2 dogs and suddenly you have more...) The dogs spent most of their time inside unless visitors were over, then they would either be in the backyard or in their crates. There were other people living in the house, including a young baby that they did really well with. They were both a little wary of strangers entering their home, but once given the chance to meet people they were playful and friendly. Moe needs an experienced, quiet home, someone with a "rescue" heart--and the patience to allow Moe to blossom. It will take a week or so and lots of love, patience, and treats, and then he'll be the perfect dog! If this posting is up, this dog is still available! Thank you so much for your interest in one of our adoptable dogs. If you have questions, please e-mail (dogs@yolospca.org). Our volunteer adoption committee will do its best to answer your inquiry within 24 to 48 hours. If you are interested in adopting please read the following to expedite your application. 1. Return to our website at http://www.yolospca.org 2. Fill out an adoption application at http://bit.ly/1PIWjIA 3. If you are interested in meeting multiple animals please put all their names on one application. 4. The adoption committee will email you to confirm receipt of your application as long as you have an email address listed on your application. 5. If the dog is a good match for your family, a volunteer will call you to set up a meeting. The Yolo County SPCA is a volunteer run organization and are usually only able to call back if the dog would be a good match for your family based on the information received from the volunteer foster families. All of our canines are altered (spayed & neutered), puppies are started on their shots (DAPP), adults are up to date (rabies and DAPP) and have been heart worm tested (negative) and all dogs are microchipped. The adoption fee is $150 (which covers all of these costs) for all dogs and puppies. We also have special discounted adoption fees for Chihuahua mixes, at $100 for Chihuahua mix puppies and $50 for Chihuahua mix adults. THERE IS NO SHELTER FOR YOU TO VISIT BECAUSE WE ARE A FOSTER BASED ORGANIZATION. IF YOU ARE READING THIS THEN WE ARE STILL ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS, WE REMOVE OUR ANIMALS FROM OUR SITE WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit animal rescue organization. All of our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. For more general questions please visit www.yolospca.org or contact us through email at (dogs@yolospca.org).

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
