mit, the Minnie Mouse to my Mickey, the Tweedledee to my Tweedledum…..wait scritch that last one, I don’t want to be labeled as the dum one. Speaking of scritches, did you know that my favorite place to be scritched is right behind my ears and my belly. My name is Pop and I am the male part of a silky haired pair of 10 month old long haired Dachshund/Spaniel mixes. My beautiful companion is named Pip, isn’t she a treasure? Our Foster Mom has been caring for us and feels we would be best adopted as a Bonded Pair. Telling us apart might seem like an impawsible task, but I will give you tips………Pip has white tips on her toes, while mine are all black, we both sport white bibs on our chest. I am slightly more rugged at 13 lbs and my lady is dainty at 10 lbs. Our long muzzles look very Dachshund, but we are taller than your average weenie. Speaking of weenies, I have one and Pip doesn’t, that is the fastest way to tell us apart. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH they are cute…..yep that is what the humans keep saying. Imagine adopting two pretty dogs at once, you will be the envy of your hood. We are friendly, but timid at first. We are great with each other, cats, and other dogs. Haven’t met any kids yet, but Foster Mom says we would need a nail trim before meeting kids, cause we like to jump and might scritch with our sharp claws. To squash this we are learning "Off", still a little rough. And "No" comes naturally. We have a small room we stay in and know the commands "out" and "go in". If we aren’t busy playing, you can likely find us cuddled up somewhere. We know to “sit” if we want the treat in your hand. "Out" of the kitchen is coming along nicely. I have to admit Pip is a bit of a sly food thief, hence the whole OUT of the kitchen rule. (please do not tell Pip I told you that, you know how girlfriends are, I will never hear the end of it). As long as I am blabbing our secrets, I will tell you I did destroy a stuffed cheetah toy one time, don’t know what came over me, I loved that thang. If you like what you read, please adopt us! Just email Debbie at DDavis@Godsdogsrescue.org and tell her you want us! See you soon!! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. UPON adoption this dog/pup will be transported to you in YOUR area!! Each dog comes spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations that are appropriate for their age, micro-chipped, heart worm tested and on current on monthly flea/tick and heart worm preventative. Medical records will come with each dog at the time of adoption. ****Please realize that breed mix and size when grown are guesstimates based on the dog/pup's characteristics and coloring, unless we have mother/father in our rescue...***** ALL OF THIS IS INCLUDED IN THE ADOPTION FEE OF $200.00 for adoptions in TEXAS only. IF THIS IS AN OUT OF STATE ADOPTION, TRANSPORT TO YOU is included in the adoption fee of $400.00 for adult dogs and $450.00 for puppies. We transport all over the country!! All our dogs are socialized and we try to provide you a good understanding of the dog’s personality. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
