DOB: 06/30/2018 Requires another dog in home: Yes Okay with dogs of all sizes: Unsure, she has never met small dogs Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: No Requires a fenced yard: Yes Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area Hello, my name is Lexie and I am a beautiful young adult female Dalmatian who is admittedly a little skittish and timid. I may even growl or possibly bark a little if I feel frightened or unsafe, but it’s just me letting you know that I’m scared and feeling vulnerable. I haven’t bitten or even snapped at anybody…I don’t want to hurt anyone, I just want to let you know when I’m scared. A couple of things that scare me are those little people and a lot of commotion. I think those smaller humans are just too rambunctious for me…ya know…it’s like they’re always all over the place…it’s just too much for me! Those purry things may be too much for me too, but I’ve not really met any so I’m not sure. My foster mom says that I “really come out of my shell when I’m playing in the fenced yard” with my foster fur sibs…now let me just clarify for you that I am a Dalmatian and we do not have shells…I think my foster mom might have me confused with a turtle, but that’s ok, I won’t tell her if you don’t. Anyway, let’s talk more about my fenced-in yard…it is AWWEESSOOMMEE!! I get to run around and chase my foster fur sibs and I even get to do my personal business out there…I love it so much that my tail just keeps on-a-waggin’ when I’m out there and I cannot imagine my life without a fenced yard for me. I will also add that I am a bit stubborn about going potty while tethered to a leash, so a back yard is really kind of a must for me. I am working very hard on the potty training thing and my foster mom says that I’ve come a long way…she has also noticed that I really need to have another doggie around to help me learn how to be my own doggie! I am crate trained and my foster mom says that I do well with the leash with a special harness; I just don’t necessarily like to do my business with it around my neck as I’ve already mentioned. I do love to jump on the couch or bed and snuggle though, but I suppose we all love to snuggle right? I also love to chew on bones and other chewy things, play with my foster fur sibs, and take long walks. Whenever I get to go for a walk, I sniff everything so I can get the news of the day. I also am brilliant…I know what it means when my foster mom tells me to “go potty” and if you would like to teach me more that would be great! My foster mom says that I’m “…adorable” and of course I must agree with her. She also says that it’s super fun to watch my tail wag as I’m letting loose in the yard. She knows that that with time, stability, and love I will continue to grow into the affectionate dog I’m destined to become. This too I must agree with, so if you are the person who can provide me with time, stability, and unconditional love, (I’m going to also add patience) then I think you and I are perfect for each other and I will just patiently wait for you to come take me to my new home! I promise I will be your best friend! Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends. In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. You may wish to consider applying and setting up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: .underdogrescuemn/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at .underdogrescuemn/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website .underdogrescuemn/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
