ick treated and microchipped. * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, .dpsrescue for an application. Our adoption fee is $400 for each dog/puppy. * If it is on a weekend of our adoptions, follow us on DPSRescue on Twitter to get real time updates on our adoptions. We will also post at the end of the evening the names of those dogs who have been adopted: .facebook/DPSRescue This dog will be available at the Bay Area Pet Fair (.bayareapetfair) on Sept. 15th-16th 10-5pm or until adopted. If you want the first opportunity to meet this dog, you must start with an application. Our booth is located at the back entrance near Splash Dogs. Pistachio is a 2 year old Terri-Poo. She weighs about 15-20lbs. She has a non-shedding coat. It may or may not be an option for those who have allergies. She has the top curly coat that is definitely Poodle like but the rest is more sleek wire coat. Pistachio is absolutely the sweetest dog. She walked right into the room when she first arrived and didn't even hesitate to walk up and offer kisses. She is full of confidence without being too much. She is full of love. Pistachio gets along well with other dogs. She lives and plays with big and little dogs. She is stocky enough that she isn't easily "breakable". She can hold her own. She is not a dog who ever causes problems. She is a dog who can get along with any personality. She goes to the dog park and doggy day camp and gets along with everyone. She could easily go to a home with another dog. Pistachio could be a dog who enjoys going on hikes and long walks on the beach. She is a dog who will easily curl up in your lap or next to you as you watch a late night movie or just want to chill out on Netflix on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Pistachio could live with a very dog savvy cat. it would need to be a cat that doesn't run and isn't overly concerned about a dog who will especially initially want to do a lot of sniffing and following. A cat in her new home will need to be one that can stand his/her own ground. Pistachio is easily a dog who could go to a home that hasn't had a dog recently. We will only consider those homes who have done their homework and are prepared. Pistachio is an option for children 6 and older.

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
