And then there are those doggie lovers that think angels have 4 paws. I disagree with all those folks. Often angels are just regular people doing nice stuff. Or maybe they are hiding their wings under their clothes…I am not too sure now that I think about it. I am grateful that I had guardian angels looking out for me and I will tell you more about that later…. I guess befur you decide if I can move in with you, you need to know some stats about me. I am a Doberman mix as best guess. I got that shiney black with the accents of rust coat with lanky slim legs. I am 3-4 years old and only weigh 50 pounds, which is right there on that blurred line where medium almost gets large. I am active and play very hard, so it is better if you have a large active dog as a buddy for me because my pounces are too wild for smaller dogs. Or if you are a loner, I am very experienced at being a human buddy, I have 3 years experience being a side kick. My previous owner was homeless. We didn’t have a house or any money. But I was well taken care of because secret angels always made sure they gave my owner kibble for me and they even took me to get my vaccinations….uh, yep, I am still not too keen about that whole vaccinations part, but supposedly it was “for my own good”. Sometimes my owner had to go to the hospital and my angels would puppy sit me. I really had a purty good life because I spent most days with my best friend. But my owner got really sick and had to move into a hospital so my angels told him that they would find me a new Mom or Dad so that he wouldn’t have to worry about me being on the streets by myself. I need a stable and permanent solution, I think the human folk call it a furryever home. The Rescue Lady said this time around, I am gonna have a new owner that loves me and as a bonus it comes with a house and food so that we don’t have to worry about shelter or our tummy growls. I think that sounds like a good idea. Are you looking for a new side kick? Then please email AdoptionsGodsdogsrescue and tell them you are ready for ME!!!! GOD'S DOGS Rescue, in San Antonio TX, does not have a shelter - ALL of our dogs are raised in foster homes in the San Antonio area. 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
