We will make every attempt to process all applications within 3 business days of receipt // // Meet our dear little Pelchie. Pelchie is a 6 year old, 14 lb Corgi / doxie mix. Don’t you just love those big ears and soft brown eyes? He likes to play with his foster siblings, but prefers the girls to the boys. He loves toys and especially likes his squeaky toys. He will fling them around and go chase the toys on his own. He is very lovable, rolls over for a tummy rub, and is also a good little watch dog. He can be protective of the home, so his new family should carefully introduce him to new people coming over and should use caution around children. Pelchie prefers women, but will also warm up to men. Pelchie is not good with cats & should go to an adult only home. He is house trained, but his owner needs to be diligent with his potty breaks. Pelchie had a prior injury that at one point caused him some pain and lameness in his back legs. He does not require any further treatment and does get around just fine now. He does not like being lifted and will have some stiffness and arthritis in his hind area which can be maintained with over the counter supplements. Pelchie just had full check up and dental cleaning and is ready for his FURever home! Pelchie is neutered, microchipped and current on his vaccinations. His adoption fee is $250 which helps Second Chance Dog Rescue cover spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, medical treatments, food and supplies. ♥ All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such these individuals are most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog. We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information. All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and up to date on shots. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period to make sure the dog is a fit for your family. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog. Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home. Thank you for visiting our dogs located at www.SecondChanceDogRescue.org

  1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
