marketing and screening of applicants as a service, free of charge. All fees and adoption conditions are determined by the owner. We advise that adopters do not send payment or deposits for pets prior to adopting. ***** Ace (who is bonded with Neema and they must be adopted together) is 1yo, weighs 75lbs, is up to date on his vaccines, is not neutered, and is not microchipped. Ace's guardian adds: "Ace is very hyper and skiddish when being chastised. He was that way when we purchased him. He is very affectionate and jealous when others are being rubbed. He will sit in front of you until he is acknowledged with a rub. He loves affection. He is very watchful and is the perfect watch dog. He has not had formal training but will do excellent if he gets it. Dislikes strangers coming into the home and doesn't like car rides too much. Knows: sit, no, go outside, go in crate, get the ball, come here, and eat your food. Ace and Neema usually can play 2 to 3 hours straight because they have been raised with having full roam of a large back yard." Ace's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him: "Everyone in my home is suffering from asthma and allergies because of the dog hair and dandruff and have been to the ER on several occasions." BITE INCIDENT: In March 2023, Ace bit the guardian's son; the bite broke the skin; animal control was not involved. Ace's guardian explains: "My son was playing too rough. He went to the urgent care to get a tetanus shot to ensure no infection would occur." Ace's guardian states the following regarding children: Ace hasn't lived with children, but his guardian recommends his living with children, "but I think he'll do great". Ace's guardian states the following regarding dogs: Ace lives with dogs so his guardian recommends his living with dogs, stating "While outside on a leash doesn't pay attention to other dogs, but when home with his 4 brothers and sisters he is happy and playful". Ace's guardian states the following regarding cats: Ace hasn't lived with or otherwise been around cats, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats. Ace's guardian describes him as: Very active Barks alot Playful Friendly Affectionate Fearful Protective Always at your side Indoor dog Nervous House-Trained Crate-Trained Likes men Likes women Ace's guardian describes his ideal future home: "They need an active family that is patient because they usually need to get to know you to warm up, but I know they will be rewarding to the new owner." 1. Do your research - find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle - before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you're about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don't have time for potty training and obedience classes you'll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies - It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don't be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet
  4. Start looking… - Once you know what you're looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. - Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can't get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.
