50lbs 6m Oliver is a mix of something delicious! On the day they were handing out good looks, it seems Oliver stood in line twice! With his bright eyes, sunny smile and golden tresses, he could be in the movies, but it’s his agility and quick wits that truly make him a star. And if you’re searching for an Actor/Athlete/Academic to add to your pack, then you’ve come to the right place. Oliver’s still just a puppy, and being cooped up in a kennel is not his idea of fun. Yet when I reach in with the leash, he ducks and dives to avoid it, such a silly boy! He can be a little hand-shy, especially around his face, so we decide to skip any kind of ‘costume’ for today’s photo shoot. But with such a gorgeous subject, the camera loves him regardless. Out in the yard, he’s energetic and always on the move, and though his previous owner tells us he’s never socialized with other dogs, Oliver is tail-waggingly eager to meet them at the fence, and boisterously friendly in play. The novelty of chasing a tennis ball quickly grows stale, but he’s thrilled to be offered a squeaky toy of his very own instead. We’re told one of his favorite toys at home was a towel! Oliver sits politely on command and takes treats and toys with a super soft mouth, and while he’s still getting the hang of leash walking, we’re making good progress with ‘heel’, and he takes care of his business as we stroll along. All puppies need structure and guidance as they grow, and Oliver’s no exception. But in an experienced home with plenty of activities to keep his mind occupied and his spirit soothed, he’s going to shine like the star he was born to be.
Oliver is a 9 month old, male GSD maybe mixed with Akita and Greyhound. He was a given to his previous owner as a gift when he was less than a month. He was surrendered because his previous owner isn’t allowed to have dogs over 25lbs. He has no known injuries or health problems and the last time he went to the vet was 2-17-16. Socialization: Around strangers Oliver was friendly and outgoing and when he played with adults he was exuberant. Around children ages 7-8, Oliver was relaxed and playful and when he played he was exuberant but somewhat rough. He has not been around cats. Behavior: Oliver has never bitten a person or animal. If his food bowl was touched while eating he became playful, he would touch his owners hand with his paw. He’s friendly if a treat or toy is taken from him. He isn’t bothered if he is taken off furniture. He is playful if he is restrained. He isn’t bothered if he is disturbed while sleeping. He isn’t bothered if his paws are touched. He’s tolerant if he is given a bath. He is friendly if an unfamiliar person approached his previous home or owner. For a New Family to Know: Oliver is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident and excitable with a high activity level. The two things his previous owner liked most about him were; he loving and well behaved. When his previous owner was home he would tend to follow him around. He liked to play with balls, chew toys and his favorite towel. His favorite games are fetch and tug. He was kept indoors only and at night he slept on the sofa. He ate both wet and dry food. He is house trained and never had accidents indoors and can also use a wee wee pad. He is well behaved when left alone indoors. He knows the cue, sit. He went on brisk walks a few times a week, on leash he pulls hard. Behavior during intake: While Oliver's previous owner was in the room, Oliver would growl, bark and lunge at me when i walked past him, however he had a wagging tail. After a few minutes he jumped up and licked my face. He allowed me to pet him, hold him and take his pictures. He sat on command and laid in my lap.
A big puppy who needs a minor amount of training to be a purrfect puppy!

Many of us (cats/dogs) will be on display on on Sundays and sometimes on Saturdays--please ask by writing us at dogs@zanisfurryfriends.org and following us on FB. If you are seriously interested in adopting one of us in particular, please fill out an application by Friday so that we can be sure to be there. Otherwise we decide based on other variables. Usually we are in our foster homes so this is a bit more stressful and a slightly artificial environment but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes too.
Please consider providing a home for more than one dog, especially if you are considering adopting a puppy. Dogs are pack animals and very much enjoy as well as need other dog company to learn to play, socialize and be good companion animals to people. The upside to this is that you won't feel as guilty leaving them alone and you get twice the love. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster or volunteer, and you can always donate!
If you want to know about cats/dogs specifically being shown at our adoption locations, please email us cats@zanisfurryfriends.org closer to the date so we know your interest and will make every effort to have that pet at the event or let you know how and where you can meet. It is extemely helpful and speeds up adoption if the application is filled out prior to visiting us so please do that before coming to our weekend events. Our weekend locations are: Sundays usually and some Saturdays. Follow us on FB for latest updates. Usually we are in our foster homes so all this is a bit more stressful but we do want to be seen and find our furever homes. Please come! And if you can't adopt, maybe you can foster. And you can always donate:) Cats and Dogs are spayed/neutered, UTD w/ all age appropriate shots and microchipped. Cats are feline combo tested for FIV/FeLV; dogs are heartworm tested and rabies vax'd, (NOT lyme vaxed but we seriously recommend it); rabbits are spayed/neutered.
